£55 is a pretty damn high retail price for a £2.20 or so ex VAT ringspun and/or combed cotton 185-205g/m2 shirt but I have no idea what I'm talking about and I only charge half that.

Nothing close to a Fenti shirt though lol, I often joke with customers about those.

Maybe there are made on a special island where people earn £100 per minute.

Anything over £25 for a (non-custom) t-shirt is crazy imo.

It's a t-shirt.

There's a t-shirt with a lemony haddock on it?! Link pls.

Jujutsu Kaisen tees are out on Uniqlo. The urge to splurge on them has left me.

The Clarks Village business model is genius really - all the stuff sold there is rejects, none of it can be sold in proper shops or online as it's sub standard, so they brand it as 'factory outlet shopping' and then you have people going to a shop thinking they're getting a bargain, like a £100 pair of jeans for £80, when really they're paying way over the odds for a reject that is really worth nothing.

I think 40 quid for a t shirt is fine as long as it's really nice material and looks great. Why not?

But yeah I suppose. Whatever makes you happy. It's not a 600 Christmas tree at least

Imagine paying near $700 for a t-shirt that has Balenciaga written on the strawberry floating back

anyone wearing anything with Balenciaga or any other 'luxury' brand advertising is simply telling the world "i am a gullible idiot who is parted easily from my money"

I'm really not a fan of t-shirts with logos, graphics, or anything else on them. 99% of the time they look terrible. Can't understand why people want to wear clothes with pictures on them.

I keep getting confused about the Balenciaga logo. Did this person drop £300 on a hoodie or do they work at the leisure centre?

If you like the design I can see the appeal... I mean I literally do that. That's the whole strawberry floating business model.

But a 205 gram heavyweight ringspun & combed cotton shirt, very well made, all durable stitching, is literally around the £2.50 mark. £4-5 for organic or some other alternative patterns.

You're paying for voluptuous overheads, design and the brand. But still about 70-90% of the markup is The Brand Value. A good amount of that probably goes to investors or executive pay too for the biggest brands.

And most of those branded shirts are worse than that. They come in at 145-165g/m2 cotton, usually ringspun but sometimes carded (most basic cotton weave), the prints aren't always necessarily that good either in terms of durability. The environment credentials are generally awful too. All to eek literally a couple of pennies or pounds out of an already enormous gross margin... usually at the expense of somebody in the supply chain (like me or the T-shirt factory employees).

Not telling anyone what they can or should or shouldn't buy of course but I know this industry inside out and from a purely economic standpoint it's a subjective choice and that's fine. Just bear in mind what you are paying for is all I can say.

fwiw I have a Henri Lloyd jacket I still wear (it's hardly in good condition though) from about 10 year ago albeit I found it in a charity shop for £15 where it was retailing for about £450.

I'd say £30 for two tees (which works out as £15 each) is actually pretty reasonable.

Apparently these sold out quick as strawberry float.
