That's pretty painfully ironic given how much gooseberry fool Apple got for not including a headphone socket like every other phone

Tip: it's not for any design reason, it's to reduce cost and increase the already very healthy margin, then make even more on the official accessories.

Been meaning to buy one of these little Gundam kits for a while. Was looking at a bigger one on Amazon but I saw this one for £8 in an anime shop.

Instructions were in Japanese and it's fiddly as strawberry float putting the tiny stickers on but it was fun building it. Kinda want another one but I'm worried I'll get sucked into a hole of buying loads :slol:

Gundam is a dangerous place to go. My brother's a talented artist and has done a few of the huge ones with airbrush, spraypaints, panel lining etc, I have one here. But to do them properly you can spend a billion hours just prepping parts.

Imo stick to the small ones and just enjoy building them and then move on. He left about 15 large Master/Perfect Grade kits that I've never made because they require so much prep (more than miniatures or even small 1:72 scale fighter planes etc). I will make them all one day but I'd need a bloody 10ft high display cabinet to put them all somewhere

I want to make this one though:

He now focuses on making music and sound for a Kyoto gamedev studio (working on some PS3 games) and amazing beats like this:

Yeah HG kits are good value for money and all they need is a bit of filing and a panel lining pen (search Gundam Marker) to make them look decent. If you want to get into priming parts before assembly and adding ageing effects you only need a few spray paints because so many colours are in common. They look less "plasticy" that way.

Honestly though you only need one diamond file, a Swan Morton 10A blade scalpel, panel line or ink / fine brush and maybe one dark grey spray to spritz some shadow onto white/grey panels and it will look decent enough and only take 2-3 hours.

I think that's a second pair of AirPods both in their case charging (they can charge inside the case, I think that's where the conductive shiz is).

And of course 2x because Richard and one has his name on just in case somebody mugs him and feels like giving it back.

Oh I can't be arsed with any of the painting (too messy and would take up too much space) but the panel lining with markers looks cool. I've got some files and craft knives and stuff but most of it is proper toolbox stuff rather than modelling kit stuff. I saw this recommended to me on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wadoy-Modeler- ... T6V6CQFAQ3

That wireless charger looks ridiculous  I bought one of these old Nokia ones literally for a few quid off eBay https://www.mymemory.co.uk/nokia-5-watt ... g-pad.html It was originally for a battery case for a Nokia Lumia that supported wireless charging.

Don't need to paint gundam, a lot of people don't, because it's already a manufactured synthetic type model, just do panel lines as it makes a big difference. That kit'll do but just one diamond file that ends in a point or is triangular in profile (or additionally a rounded one) would do more in terms of getting into awkward places to remove mould lines and flashing.

Unlike other brands the models already come with a reasonable colour to them so you can just add depth and details if you want. And of course no glue.

In terms of mess I hand paint most things and keep my workspace to an A4 cutting board lol so I stow it away with other stuff but I realise your lifestyle is more minimalistic. I hardly ever work with sprays, largely because they are expensive and clutter up the place. If you want to add weathering and shading look into drybrushing techniques, one brush and no mess at all as you use pretty much 0.01ml of paint doing it.

A small amount of high grit sandpaper can help take off some of the sheen of the plastic to make it appear more matte as well with the bonus of a naturalistic weathering element. You could try adding a small amount of ink or gundam marker ink to a miniature sponge and dabbing that but it could just end up looking dirty.

At least one panel marker is worth it and quite satisfying. More like therapy colouring books etc., although they vary massively in quality and how much they flow etc. you need to run a cotton bud along the bead of ink to remove the excess or it'll go tacky and look pretty pants. Depends on the brand you use.

Genuine question, where do you manage to keep all this stuff? Isn't space an issue?
