I know very few people outside of product reviewers that have actually been able to test as many headphones as are on the market.

I currently use B&O Play H8's for headphones and Sony WF-1000X for earphones. They both handle sound brilliantly but they've both got a massive, completely different, flaw. The B&O's noise cancellation is great...as long as you don't move your head faster than a snapping turtle. The second you do the B&O's will attempt to destroy your ears with feedback so high that it would impress even the attendees of a 6th birthday party. Sony on the other hand have decided that music is the only thing they want you to use the headphones for, watching any sort of video with voices is like watching Drunken Master 3 on VHS with the English dub track.

Other than that they're both great and if you can live without noise cancellation that works properly and the ability to watch video I'd recommend them.

Grado's are my favourite open backs for pissing everyone around you off. They offer great value for money as well.

This argument will never end because "makes music sound good" and "makes sound sound like sound" are not the same thing. It also depends massively on what sounds you like and how they sound. Also whether you're basically deaf or not, or 10 years old.

You can get accurate headphones that sound dull as strawberry float, you can get headphones that blow your mind but after you're tired of listening to their massive volume everything turns to mud and you'd rather listen to nothing, and you can get "good sounding" headphones that sound nothing like what was actually mixed in the first instance. Your preference is going to sit somewhere in between and has no scientific basis whatsoever, so just buy whatever you want, no-one needs to give a strawberry float. You also have a huge pre-bias and confirmation bias element based on all the headphones and systems you have ever listened to music on before (and brand loyalty), so good luck coming to a critical conclusion of that.

I have some Senhesiser H448s from 2010. I can hear music with them at decent volumes and detail. I know they sound wrong in a lot of ways (they lack bass and the mids are harsh) but I don't care and it doesn't matter because I know this already. If I get some other headphones they will sound different, big woop.

I still use CX300/ CX300-IIs in-ears because again I know what their sound signature is to EQ them and what music will sound good with them.

For speakers I use reference monitors because I make music. Everything sounds strawberry floating shite on them because they are supposed to highlight flaws in recordings, they sound totally flat and are not satisfying in any way to listen to music on. So everyone buying those to listen to music on is kind of missing the point, and would be better off with some old wooden bookshelf monitors from Denton/Wharfedale or whatever for £20 on eBay and basically any Hi-Fi amplifier.

I like music but buying headphones is more fun yo.

If you want music to sound better here's a tip: provided you have a bit of headroom in your amplifier and they weren't £2 or came free with your smartphone, turn it up. Then turn it up some more. Maybe try holding your headphones like this

Image

There you go, sounds better doesn't it?

There's lesson one in mixing and mastering popular music, lol.

If you want your sounds to sound clearer, bigger and bassier, boost the frequencies in this pattern with an EQ:

Image

However the effect will diminish after about 20 seconds, so turn the volume up even more. It will be the best music you've ever listened to until your blow your eardrums anyway.

If you want to hear more of something, boost those parts that appear low in the graph. Specifically, boost these:

Image

But don't boost too much/all of 800Hz-2K (or cut it) because you will hear everything but nothing.

If you want rock music to sound rockier, buy headphones that boost or cut these bands (most headphones do this):

Junk - 20-40Hz
Kick - 40-100Hz
Bass - 100-350Hz
Snare - 1Khz
Guitar Attack/Solo - 2-3KHz
Vocals - strawberry floating all over the place
Piano - strawberry float that gooseberry fool
Junk ~12Kz+ depending on the music and how deaf you are

Sorry I don't understand any other kind of music because I'm too edgy, but honestly our sensibility to "goodness" and "loudness" is still largely informed by rock music mid 60s-80s so whatever.

Electronic music (basically all contemporary pop/electronica) is pretty good with a flat response, the fit of the headphone is more important (for bass transmission to ur skull). And stronger mid/highs as well, basically all that matters is 40-100Hz, 1k and a bit of 10k.

R&B is basically both of those.

If you listen to something else idk, steal/try some headphones and buy the ones you like.

If you understand sound (that is, headphones, music and your own ears) then you can buy headphones for £10 and they will sound amazing, you will buy more when they break and speak wistfully of how much you (a) miss your old headphones (b) they are soooo much better

I do like Limmy but he does scare me just a little, I can't quite figure out whether he's a genius, autistic or slightly psychotic. Probably all three. As a half-scot we have at least something in common. Really reminds me of my cousin's humour but without the profanity.

One of my favourite fragrances Allure Homme Sport!

It smells great, always get complemented on it when I'm wearing it. The previous bottle I had lasted me at least ten years. Ran out the other week and I went to buy more then I saw the price :dread:

Tried it yesterday. I found the top note too citrussy. Also tried, and really quite liked, YSL's Y.

Do we have a aftershave/scent thread?

Yeah, it's called the grooming thread or something along those lines. Seriously.

He has mentioned a few times that he thinks he may me on the autism spectrum and a bit of a psycho. Wouldn't surprise me.
