To be fair I made the same argument. Even if I saved money the interest is virtually non existent, and building equity on a building you might not even really want takes a long time if the lending terms are even any good. Part of the reason I put what little I have into machinery which can and has generated revenue or can be sold up only at a small loss is because with the right work it can create both value and wealth. All business is investment by definition. There's lots of small niche things people can do to generate a bit of money but in the worst cases you can fall into a massive whole although more often it is the case it gives you something to do and there is a rewarding side to managing risk as well.

Pretty much anything people do as humans is risky. Just don't let it become essentially a gambling habit. And of course there are massively overvalued things out there that only plummet in value and that's, well, a bad investment.

I'm not hot on big brands or collections, I'd rather do something with my equity.

Lucked out and bought 2 more t-shirts of the CP 1919 isolated pulsar plot / Unknown Pleasures album cover :toot: (A bargain at £5.90) I think I now own... 6 of these :slol: :fp: The first two are too large, the rest fit perfectly but I keep buying them as the image is one I love and want to wear for years and years to come. *touch wood*

I also learned something new about the image! I incorrectly thought it was a stacked plot of the first observed pulsar co-discovered by Jocelyn Bell Burnell on 1967. That's only half correct: it's actually a plot of the same pulsar, but a visualisation which was made in 1970 by one Harold D. Craft Jr., at Cornell University.

New 10-inch box sets, 4/5 discs each. I think it’s the tenth version of Mindcrime I’ve bought (including live versions), but it is my all-time favourite album, and I’m always going to buy new editions.

I actually kind of like the bilinear filtered web icon or whatever that originally was.

Operation Mindcrime is an absolute classic. One of the best concept albums, if not the best.

It’s a flawless album, IMO. Absolutely nuts to think it’s 33 years old.

The band’s logo - it’s been on every album cover, in one form or another. You can see it on the left one too.

Yes but, it's super low res. They've done that deliberately.

I reckon they had that on some ancient Web page or something, grabbed it and thought hey, what does this aesthetic say if we blow it up an absurd amount.

The only practical reason for an artist to have a logo that small in their library is perhaps a favicon / bookmark icon or really small Web page logo back in the mid 00s or even late 90s. They've re-appropriated it.

Gradients look pretty funky when you break them down into mosaics like that. It's just the way a lot of super old graphics is used to be authored (as bitmaps, ie pixel art).

I look back at some web icons I authored back in the early 00s and there's something oddly serene and beautiful about them. The way I work now is profoundly different.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Yes, it’s very deliberate but... it was first released in 1990. It was kind of a topical commentary about how the world was going digital.

I like some of their other albums, especially Rage For Order, but nothing they've ever done is even close to comparing to Mindcrime. They set the bar so high that they were never going to hit it again.

Wasn't a big fan of the sequel album as well. I just pretend it doesn't exist.

Yeah, Mindcrime cast a very long shadow. I do love Empire too, though it’s a shame most people know them for Silent Lucidity, which is so unrepresentative of them.

I’ve stuck with them over the years. The first five albums were a class apart, then they did some good stuff, but Tate’s ego started to take over. They’re back to some kind of form with the current lineup, but nothing that touches the golden era.

Awesome purchase. Mindcrime is in my top 5 albums, probably 3rd to Introduce Yourself by FNM and Troublegum.
Shame Tate turned into a wanker but Todd la Torre has a voice singing live like nothing I've ever heard.

Oh crap, now Parker has left the band. Just as they’d got a good, stable line-up, with a bunch of summer shows.

Yes, TLT is an amazing singing talent. Seems he can turn his voice to any style, and really nails the old songs. And a shit-hot drummer too.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World 4K, I never normally opt for the 4K version of films but definitely making an exception for what is possibly one of my favourite films  Out July 5th if anyone else was interested in buying a copy.

Oh! I had no idea Todd La Torre was singing for them. He was singing for Crimson Glory a lot of years ago.

Also Troublegum :datass:
