I have no issues with the fit at all, they are among the best i've encountered anywhere.

Neither too tight, nor too baggy.

Looks like Uniqlo have put more graphic print tees on sale for £5.90 but I'm officially not buying any more.

I had a friend who got really into Raspberry Pi when I was mucking about with her ARduinos, it was cool because you can plug in an LCD at the time and start writing messages to it in 10 minutes. She made a plant growth monitor thing with the Pi and lasercut all the parts. Now she's Creative Director at the foundation or something. Here's a link for inspiration: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/introd ... hel-rayns/

I forgot she started out as artist in residence... hmm a great big strawberry float YOU to the misogyny/women in tech disparity and useless art degrees etc etc, we were in the same class. Great bit of upward mobility from crazy art school experiment - and a lot of gaffa tape - but damn was she tenacious and totally deserves her success. A lovely example of how accessible tech/microcomputing an get people places. Incredibly smart woman though, it was not down to it being "easy" etc but perhaps more synergising creative process, experimentation, prototyping methodology etc. so it works in a way that more people can "do computing". So rather than programming a strawberry floating calculator or "village hall room booking" system and quashing talks of games or cool devices etc. like in my A-levels, it's something that feels worth spending your time developing because you actually want to make the thing that interests you and not the curriculum.

I'm not that surprised, I come from a humanities background and managed to slip quite easily into science type work. As long as you're ok at maths and thinking rationally it's not that hard a jump. A lot of Artists do art work on computer now anyway, which takes programming and engineering knowledge.

Fair point, I do code and stuff like working with robotics (CNC machining), we see it in our favourite medium games all the time although usually something of a team effort rather than one prodigy but they do exist. I've never agreed with the perceived divide, thankfully there is more of that with STEM integration in arts and a lot of the more innovative work out there uses computer stuff (my graduating body of work was pretty much all mirocontroller at its core and that was 2012). What did piss me off though was the fine art tutors at my university pretty much chided her for being "more of a technician" than an artist just bcuase they don't understand this gooseberry fool. She went on the get Arts Council England lottery funding so yeah, whatever dudes, keep sticking bits of sculpted blue tak and mirrors onto walls like it's still the 70s and that's edgy and cool. New media is totally lost on the old dinosaurs and it's not even new at all (hell the hippies at Atari were doing it decades ago), it's just ridiculously cheap. I mean you can make an interaction installation with a £4 computer, that's strawberry floating crazy looking at it compared to yesteryear.

Yes I own a small 3-axis CNC, it's a Shapeoko 3. It cuts with a professional palm router so not a proper VFD-controlled spindle but it's more than capable of cutting materials like wood, plastic and soft metals brass, aluminium etc. The stepper motors are pretty powerful and the gantries are substantial so it's very sturdy when compared to other machines. It's not exactly going to do stainless steel, titanium etc. but some people have tried. One guy made a watch out of steel.

The Zelda games are about as canonical a Mario, everyone just needs to stop trying. They design the game around, well, the design, and that's the right way.

Edit: Obviously totes wrong thread :slol:

Exercise bike I got from Amazon last week. Was worried the resistance wouldn't be enough at higher settings since it uses magnets, but it's pretty damn good. Bought that additional gel cover for the seat since it was pretty hard, and got a screw on holder for my phone as well.

Image

Had an eye test the other week and my prescription hadn't changed but I though I'd buy new ones anyway since it's a time for a change. Got these Timberland aviator ones. Would've been £210 but got them for £140 since I get a discount from my contact lens scheme.

Fabric iPhone cover from eBay that was about £3 or something.

Was going to say, have been looking for a long long time for someone who would be able to reproduce something like these on acrylic, ideally back-lit

Image

FYI not thinking about anytime soon, this has been a pipe dream years in the making - but I have been amassing so much reference material over the years it is unreal!

If you wanted it in acrylic it would work using two part black and opal so machine through the black part so that the markings are backlit, my work email for this stuff is hello at bjum dot uk

And yeah my business is all custom/commission jobs, don't really doing anything industrial usually one-off or local commerce/business stuff. People have sketchy ideas on brain/paper and I make them either to spec or just not shite.

Other thing that's easy to do is just cut the acrylic in opal and then apply 7-10yr PVC sign-making films over the top, they are opaque enough to act as a block-out. Actually I have some really thick Avery stuff that isn't useful for much else because it's an arse to cut and pretty much behaves like .1mm plastic, not sure what it is in nm but it's definitely thicker than standard. I just came into that roll, Uniclo of all places threw some out, I guess they couldn't be arsed doing their own display lettering anymore

Know my LEDs too, my friend started up an LED importer so I had to learn all of that stuff. I've been trying to get into lightboxes but they tend to fall through because they're not cheap but I might make some small ones just for fun.

You should check out this guy in Australia, he has the same machine as me and uses it exactly for that, making modular synths.

I'll get a laser within a year as well hopefully, just need to make back on plain machining first.
