All I know of David Hockney is that Sun newspaper logo he drew and now this. Are gooseberry fool versions of logos his thing?

I'd forgotten about that S*n logo.

He's painted some amazing stuff in the past, but it feels a lot like he's absolutely phoning it in now.

I've never really understood the niche within modern art where you can basically paint like an average child at best and get millions. It has to obviously be part of an elite superiority within the world of art - as in, "we get it, but you never will (although we secretly know there's nothing to get)".

It's like an in-joke, buried within a facade, within an otherwise noble profession. And while the rest of us normal folk get exasperated by chancers like Hockney, they peer through their gold-flecked curtains and point and giggle at us.

I get the popular notion that art is worthless if it lacks obvious technique, I know I used to feel the same way, but you just end up further reducing art down to something that should only be made by those who have the means to dedicate the time to it.

I really like this but I can imagine a lot of people would call it crap because it isn't realistic.
