There's a section of pole underneath the car so maybe it hit at such a pace that the top section then just dropped into the car.

This is my bet. Judging by the hole, the pole has clearly gone through the windscreen from above. Must have hit it so hard that it snapped the pole.

My Mum used to love reading Take a Break and we got in a huge argument once after a story popped up about a guy who walked into a supermarket, walked up to a woman with a baby in a pram and punched it in the face.

I couldn't stop laughing because while he said he thought it was a doll, just the picture of it happening in my head was too much to handle and even now thinking about it it makes me laugh.
