I find most of Hockneys work horrifically sterile and flat. Given how much nature features he often manages to capture it in the most lifeless and garish way. His newer ipad stuff just goes further down this rabbit hole. Sometimes (like the Big Splash) the almost graphic/fashion design works and can be elegent and pleasently pop and occasionally he catches something like the light and mood of an Edward Hopper. SoK example is like this. But a lot of the time I struggle to feel anything from Hockneys stuff. In a way its remarkable that someone could take the blue skies and green fields and make them seem aesthetically apathetic.

Mind you I've always had a chip on my shoulder with he started blabbing on about the old masters being frauds because they might have used various optical tricks to help them achieve their paintings. Always thought it reeked of "I cant do that so I'll reject it and piss on their chips"

Stuff like the Sun logo I find morally repungant because this is a man who could photocopy his arse and that would sell for lots of money and yet he is fine with using his art to add value to the Sun. The strawberry floating Sun dear god.

Move over Defund the Police, it's time for Defund the Artists.

I know this a joke but today someone I know got made redundent today because of cuts into art education. So the arts are very much being defunded as we speak.

Art is totally subjective. I really like Mark Rothko's work, and a lot of people would call that pretentions bullshit. I can see why people are mocking that Hockney piece, but he's clearly a talented guy.
