I had GC but missed Pikmin is tere a story line between them or could i jump in to the second one.

As by the sounds of it the first has a time limit and i am no fan of games with a limited time.

They are kind of connected, but I don't think you'll miss out that much. I think you should give first one a chance though, and if you strawberry float up a day you can always re-start it (which makes it "easier") and I'm sure Wii controls would make it easier (not sure, I'll let people who has played both versions comment on that)

Whoever play tested the new Wii controls for the Wii version of Pikmin needs to be FIRED! The Pikmin series on gamecube are truly great games but the revised wii control system makes it impossible to simultaneously swarm your pikmin around Olimar whilst throwing them. This makes high speed swarm attacks which are vital to obtaining low casualty figures in combat completely impossible and thus ruins a crucial tactical element of the gameplay. If you want to play Pikmin on wii I stongly suggest getting the gamecube version and a gamecube controller. This will play on wii and give a vastly superior Pikmin experience.

I was sure I read that they had re-mapped the swarm to the D-Pad. They couldn't have removed the feature, it would completely change the game! I loved swarming an entire army of Pikmin around a sleeping bulborb.

Don't set Chris off again.

I know you're right, TAP knows you are, the whole world knows it but Canton will explode.

But it's true, Pikmin 2 had nothing on Pikmin except an extra 25 hours of recycled gameplay*. In caves. That was largely boring and became a chore. Nintendo reacted to all the original game's complaints about the 6 hour lifespan (even though it was intentioned) and in every conceivable way stretched the core gameplay beyond the point of it varying the challenge and allowing you to vary your approach.

On my second play through of Pikmin I did the puzzle that used the coloured plants that when you throw a pikmin into it, it changes the colour of your pikmin. It says it all that Pikmin 2 re-used this concept about 500 times. I just really dislike the viewpoint that somehow more of the same somehow makes up for lack of change and lack of ideas, as though it doesn't matter because the basic Pikmin gameplay is so good. It still stinks of the developers taking the piss, challenging your patience and perseverance, rather than aiming to delight and enlighten you. And I hated that. I hate it when games string you along.

*if that's your thing, just replay Pikmin more than once or twice. Pikmin is a better game than Pikmin 2, anyone who thinks different is basically stupid [/HSH28]. They think 'more' automatically equals 'better', even though it also means 'more' equals 'lack of creativity in every area'. I guess it depends on why you play games: to have fun or to waste your time.

And collecting trinkets and such instead of essential ship parts felt so pointless. The conceit is that you're supposed to be prepared for a gruelling battle in a bland indentikit cave with loads of nasties just so you can collect a bottle cap or something. Madness.

You swarm with down on the DPAD and pointing in the right direction. It works perfectly fine.

Deliberate baiting FTL. You're old enough to know better, suzz.

Works quite well and its easier to throw your pikimin where you want them to be but the swarm takes some getting used to and i think it works better on the cube.

There is plus and negative points.

The Wii has a better overall feel and having separate control of the curser is much easier but Swarming is a lot easier on the cube

I'm not really sure where to put this, since there doesn't seem to be a proper "New Play Control!" thread, but here is some very positive impressions of Metroid Prime. The achievement/token system from Corruption has been put into the original now, and it seems to control like a dream.

That is sounding very promising. Good to see they are making an effort rather than just a port with new controls.
