Tonight: Bastion, cheering my friend from home (he's trying to become a drag queen) probably something on Netflix
Tomorrow: take Ella to mum's for her weekend with her, then no clue after that
Sunday: No idea. Probably buy some cream soda.

It'd depend on what it was and if she was guilty.

Turn them into the police, or turn them in to the police?

Important difference.

Weekend: not a lot.

Would i turn them in? It would depend on what they did as there are some things i'd have no choice over.

Friday: Watched the Formula 1 free practice sessions, did a few bits and bobs around the house.

Saturday: Work till 4pm, then catch up on the Formula 1 when I get home. Then going to make an apple crumble (although I cheat and buy, what in my opinion is the best custard around, Sainsbury's taste the difference Madagascan vanilla custard), probably put another hour or two into a game (probably Crash Bandicoot as that's what I've been playing since completing Xenoblade Chronicles 2).

Sunday: Work till 5pm, then catch up on the Formula 1. Might get a hour to spend on Crash Bandicoot again, might not.

Edit, don't have kids so couldn't possibly say but I guess it depends what they'd theoretically done.....

It seems I’m not the only one who thought this

On that note if I had children and by bizarre coincidence one of them was Sting I would almost certainly turn them into The Police.

Saturday - (Just) Causin' Chaos
Sunday - More of the same, making plans for someone's birthday on Wednesday

Anything less than murder and I'd like to think I could protect them. Won't put up with even a hint of psychopathic behaviour either way though.

Sat: Clean house, wash hair, then nightshift.
Sun: Sleep, food shop and sleep some more.
Edit: Totally forgot we’re off to see Trailer Park Boys live Sunday night. There’s a street food thing behind my house we’re taking friends to before.

If through Devine nature I ended up with children I’d defo hand them in. Guilty or not, I cba with that gooseberry fool. Keep em.

Oh I forgot to answer the question - they'd be fending for themselves if they committed a crime. They have to learn that there are consequences to their actions.

I have to fix my pond and finish tiling the patio but I can't really be bothered to do either.

I'm playing hockey this afternoon as well. I've been a bit inactive recently so not sure how it's going to go.

Surely it depends on the crime?

It was once a crime to be homosexual.

Of course you're right, but I'd prefer not to court controversy in the thread by stating which crimes I feel shouldn't be illegal. In general, if my kids did something that was morally/ethically wrong and against the law, they'd be on their own.

Surely it's your job as the parent to guide them and re-educate them if this was the case? Not just pretend like you had no part in them getting to this point and ignoring the consequences of not raising them into the person you think they should be.

In this hypothetical situation of course.

That doesn't really have any bearing to any of my point about having to face the consequences of doing something wrong, and you can only do so much as a parent. Obviously it's a complicated question with a lot of variables as well, but I only really have time to give a fairly generalised answer unfortunately.

I'm presuming that by the point of committing the crime my offspring is an adult(i.e. 18+) has already been given the guidance and support and moral training that I can give through the preceding however many years, and also has a general sense of morality and no learning disabilities/other characteristics that may prevent them from understanding what they have done. Charges dependent I would be there to offer support and guidance while they go through the legal process of course(what parent wouldn't?), but I can't protect them from having to go through the process if they've done something wrong, because it gives the message that I'll be there to bail them out and they can get away with things they shouldn't.

Regardless, you're reading things into my answers that aren't there - they would be on their own in the sense that they've committed a crime and they alone have to deal with the consequence of that. The question wasn't about guidance and support, or even whether I've raised them right(which you have weirdly made assumptions about), it was about whether or not I'd protect them from the consequences of committing a crime. And the answer is that with one or two small exceptions, no, I don't think I would. But I would support them through it.
