I've reduced my meat Co sunption loads since dating/marrying a vegetarian. She has no problem with me eating meat as much as I want but I cba cooking 2 separate meals. So I'll only really order meat off a menu, or have some salami in the fridge as a snack.

All this to say I don't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would. Its weird how much "meat = a meal" was ingrained in my thinking.

You'll be a full on veggie before long. Same thing happened to me and now the thought of eating meat makes me feel ill. Never thought I'd see the day but there you go.

There's no way I'm ever giving up meat.

I'm struggling to maintain my 'almost' veggie lifestyle. At first I was having meat 1-2 times a fortnight but now it's at least 1-2 times a week.

Doesn't help that not eating it makes me miss it and then seems to make it even tastier when I do have it, as it feels like a bit of a treat.

I don't think people who eat a lot of meat are doing it to be awful though. If you assume people are just bad and that's that, you can't understand how to help educate or encourage them, or change the systems that drive a particular behaviour.

When people know the facts and don't even try a little bit though. I just don't understand.

A lot of athletes are turning to plant based diets because it's just straight up healthier. There's very little if any benefit to eating meat (especially red) and the damage to the planet is crazy.

Yet very well educated people who know this continue to eat it. Which is fine if you don't care about the planet I guess but I feel like a lot of them do.

I just don't understand it.

This is nonsense.

Professional athletes overwhelmingly eat very clean diets which do contain lots of lean cuts of meat. Chicken breasts are the core protein component of their diets.

When you get into more specialist diets related to bodybuilding and powerlifting where consuming a huge amount of protein is needed, they're all eating meat. The Mountain, Eddie Hall, Brian Shaw etc. A Vegan athlete or even a Veggie athlete will be at a tremendous disadvantage in these freakshow sports.

Venus Williams and Jermaine Defoe are vegan and they're pretty good at sport.

And I'd go so far as to say an Oat Milk latte is superior to a normal latte. The oatyness work really well with a coffee flavour.

I have black coffee all the time when I'm at home. If I'm somewhere getting a latte or whatever I always get it with coconut milk.

Yeah there's quite a few examples that counter Grumpy David's "nonsense" here: Lewis Hamilton and David Haye being a couple of other high profile ones.

The issue is claiming "A lot" are turning away from meat. The reason people can name some athletes who have done so is because it's rare enough to be news worthy.

Venus is Vegan but her far more successful sister eats lean meats. The vast majority of football players eat lean meats too.

And when it comes to sports with greater emphasis on strength or size, there's no doubt you're at a disadvantage on a veggie diet.

Not "A lot", just "A few".

I actively hate the planet so I buy meat and then throw it away and have a salad.

So your saying that David Haye didn't really require strength to win the world heavyweight championship?

Or what about this bloke

Barny du Plessis the 2014 Mr Universe and a vegan. You're telling me he's not able to build muscle because if his diet.

Again, please address the issue of "A lot" instead of avoiding it.

You'll run out of famous veggie athletes long before I'll run out of those who eat lean meat.

Also Mr Universe is not where the freakshows compete. Mr Olympia is. Compare the Vegan in the small fish competition to the Omnivore in the big fish competition. Mr Olympia 2019 winner:

I could have used Ronnie Coleman to make Barny look like an even bigger "Liiiightweight!" too.

Grumpy David, vegans make up just over 1% of the population, so of course you will run out of vegan athletes before meat-eating ones
