Pretty much. Also avoid the ultimate laser death attack by sticking to cover, and as Fade said, if the cover goes down, move to the area it has come up at. Focus all your fire on one of them until it dies, it'll checkpoint after you beat one of them. EMP grenades are also your friends. After you kill one of the twins, it gets a lot easier.

Got this today for a tenner 8-)

Probably won't start it until next week, though.

Ya, but I can defo see parts where the signature Smith rage will come out and the controller will reach warp speed to the nearest wall.

It's like if you mixed Gears of War with Devil May Cry. Not average =O
It's the Ninja Gaiden of shooters.

Play it on Normal first, chalky. If you're struggling, stick it on Casual for a bit while you get your head around it. If it clicks, it'll be the best tenner you ever spent.

The latter two games have extremely deep combat systems.

Vanquish does not. No matter how you look at it, there are only a set number of things you can do and you're confined to doing them again and again and again.

Except during the bits where you are separated from your enemy by some rather low barrier that you inexplicably can't jump over or a gap, in which case I hope you enjoy standing still and shooting. This happens more commonly than you would think. Sure, they'll tell you you can jump and slow mo shoot, but not really any more interesting. Those guys are over there, you can't touch them, shoot them. Or "mix things up" and chuck a grenade at them.

That's factually wrong.

Prove it.

There is not anywhere near the same level of depth as something like DMC.

I'm not even going to bring Bayonetta into this to give you a chance.

DMC does not have depth. It has combos. The enemies are cannon fodder. I've not played Bayonetta so I can't comment. But it doesn't seem to be that different. What I got from the demo was that it had more moves than are practical. If Ninja Gaiden was a katana, DMC would be a tiny Swiss army knife.

When I say DMC, I mean exclusively DMC3. I haven't played the others to any real degree, and if you think the enemies are cannon fodder in 3, you're either lying or you haven't played it.

I haven't, but well Monty Oum who was a combat designer and Seb (The guy who runs http://Frame-Advantage.com) both thought that 4 had the best enemies in the series and that 3 had the best moves. I'm not saying there isn't difficulty or strategy there. But compared to Ninja Gaiden it's not very hard. Plus it seems counter productive to have a game that is designed around awesome long combos, but then not to be able to cancel out of active frames with a roll or a jump. Especially when there are enemies with projectiles.

FYI I do love DMC I just don't think it has as much depth as you say =P

I don't think DMC is that deep either, but that's more a statement about how shallow Vanquish is, imo.

In DMC3, if you don't learn how to play the game you will die. A lot.

In Vanquish, you can quite happily and demonstratively play it like Gears of War and you'll probably be fine for most of it. That's without even actually comparing the systems.

This is great news for someone like me! I've yet to start Vanquish, got it for Xmas but yet to start it. In the meantime I played Wet and a bit of Darksiders and have concluded my ability at combo type games (i.e memorising timed button chains) is absolutely non existent.

You strategically move from cover to cover? It's a cover shooter what do you expect.
