Check out Dark Room if you haven’t already, it’s a lot of fun.

Didn't get a chance to see Dark Room unfortunately as we had to leave a bit early. I did buy a load of stuff though. Got myself a backlit GameBoy and a few games for it. Played some old games and generally had a good time.

I was disappointed at the lack of old computers amongst the dealers. All I could see were consoles and if someone had an Amiga or ST I'd probably have bought it. I did consider a PC Engine at one point though.

I picked up a Retrobit NES pad, a Skylanders Giants figure and a copy of Apocalypse on PS1.

I did see one vender with a big bin full of Amiga games but didn’t see any systems.

Did you have a try of the new Spectrum?

I was in Braehead buying shoes with my wee boy. Realised it was on and couldn’t go. Was gutted.

It was great. I played on a Nuon and a Vectrex for the first time, things I never thought I’d do.

Overall the event was very similar to a more local affair I went to last year called NERG (North East Retro Gaming) but the trip to Glasgow has left me keen to come back. I mean I only discovered Super Bario existed right before coming home.

Highlight of the weekend was sitting in the hotel bar minding my own business and meeting John Robertson (the guy behind The Dark Room).

I’m definitely considering coming back next year, I had a whale of a time.

Super Bario is decent. We had a retro game cafe nearby there until last year too, but they sadly weren’t very good at the cafe, and advertising parts.

I didn’t get the chance to explore much of the city centre beyond being very impressed with George Square and how swanky the branch of the Clydesdale Bank I popped into to use a cashpoint was.

Also, hats off to the taxi driver I had on the way back from Braehead to Queen’s Street station too, he gave me a great price compared to the cab I got going to Braehead and his banter was top drawer.

Unrelated, but I see G-Force is closing down.

That's a bit gutting. G-Force used to be fantastic, but the past few times I've been in it's been expensive, the staff have been rude and they've not had anything particularly interesting.

Still a shame to see it go.

It's an institution, I'm pretty sad about it. Still gonna take a shot at their retro stock before it goes completely.

It is a shame, but I always found it a weird place. Any time I went on to buy a game they almost seemed passive aggressive. Always felt like I was a pain in the arse for wanting to buy a game off them. Would still rather it was open though!

That's it exactly.

They used to break street dates quite regularly, so you could get stuff pretty much as soon as they got them in. So when I went in and saw they had Spider-Man on PS4 on the shelves two/three days before release (Which is what happened with MGSV and Witcher III) I took it up to the till and the guy looked at me like I was a piece of gooseberry fool and said it's not out yet. He was a prick.

So in that regard I'm not surprised if they're like that with all their customers.

I also managed to have a go on the rather rare Street Fighter 2 whack-a-mole machine. I’d actually like to see more machines like that such as Namco’s Whack-a-Croc or Cracky Crab as I loved playing those machines when I was a kid.

I would have liked there to be more live stuff too. Beyond The Dark Room and a couple of cosplay contests there wasn’t much to do beyond arcade cabinets and old consoles despite the event being spread over 2 rooms.

The Manchester version (where I was originally planning on going until changing my mind at the last minute) had a lot more going on outside of just video games not least of all Knightmare live and a panel featuring some of my favourite YouTubers.

I got a little concerned when days before the event nothing had been announced. I get it’s a heck of a lot further to trave for people based further down the country but what about more local gaming personalities, I mean what’s Dominik Diamond doing these days?
