This is coming from someone who plays Monster Hunter exclusively bowgunning and really enjoys it

With the right controls and "game feel" a bow and arrow can be a wondrous thing to play around with, but many games just make it feel boring.

The motion controls on BotW make landing a shot feel so, so good, or going back to something like Thief and nailing a long bow shot to an unsuspecting guard, compensating for the distance and how it impacts the flight of the arrow etc. so damn satisfying. :datass:

Prezzy, you gotta believe! If I can get a fair way into the game, anyone can. You have to adjust your thinking and approach, though. Patience is key and you have to accept that dying is learning. The feeling of achievement I gained - even when defeating various goons, let alone the bosses - was terrific and I'd definitely place the game in my personal list of favourites.

I hope this is you confirming that starting tomorrow you will be getting back to it and streaming. After all, a gap in play shouldn't matter, you just gotta re-adjust your thinking and approach, though. Patience is key and you have to accept that dying is learning.

Nice one jawa!!!

... . I would like to return to Souls but I'd have to get my head in the right place for it; and spend some timing re-learning the controls before I streamed. One fine day it'll happen!

PlayStation will close its Manchester games studio.

The firm confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it intends 'to close it as part of our efforts to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness'. We understand the entire studio has been made redundant.

Sony's Manchester team was formed to create VR games back in 2015. The firm had been working on an unannounced VR project.

The controller speaker really has been massively under-used, with few games utilising it. Resogun's use of voicing from the speaker made the PS4 launch more memorable and Mad Max's method of having the reload and shotgun sounds emanating from the controller were excellent. Beyond that... I can't think of much. I know that Death Stranding uses it for sounds from the baby.

Have you played any other games that have made effective use of the controller speaker?

I'd recommend at least trying one out. I've beaten all the Soulsborne games multiple times (bar DS3 which I've only beaten once) and I'm not even that good at them. Christ for most of my recent run through it I've been hammered and I'm still just about managing. They are hard but certainly not too hard.

I'm also an advocate for cheesing certain sections and sniping mobs with a bow.

It has been woefully underused. MGS5 used it a bit.

I pretty much always play using headphones which I think disables the controller speaker anyway.

Only game that I have played which I believe uses it was The Last of Us where the torch on/off/recharge sound comes through the controller I believe.

Does feel like many more interesting things could have been done with it.

The best usage of the speaker by far - BY FAR - is the ever-so-satisfying sound of a golf ball dropping into the cup in Everybody’s Golf.
A recent game I played had the audio from the...err, audio diaries you’d find coming through it as well, but I forgot what game it was :fp:

Deus Ex used the speaker for when people call you for a chat IIRC...
Was pretty cool, but admittedly turned it off when it kept making me jump  :fp:

Question: can you setup a US account on PS4 to purchase and play US PSN store games on a UK console? And if you can are there any problems or drawbacks with it?

Spotted a whole bunch of good deals that I'd like to take advantage of!

Absolutely no drawbacks, go for it. I’ve had a US account alongside my main UK account for years, mostly to buy PS1 games that aren’t on the store here.

Do any of you use Remote Play as a means to play your PS4 games? I’ve got my old launch vita that I’ve not touched for years but was thinking of trying to play my PS4 games via Remote Play. Just wondered what people’s experience with it was like and if it’s an actual viable way to play my PS4 games rather than locked to a TV

Excellent, I'll be taking advantage of this then!

I've been using Remote Play a bit, although via my phone rather than Vita. It works really well for me, there's a bit of input lag and occasionally the image shows artefacts but nothing game breaking - if you're sensitive to those things then it may bother you but everything I've done has been perfectly playable.

Main downside I have found is just that the screen is often too small - many games just don't expect you to be looking at them on a tiny display!

I've used it on the Vita before and it works great for some games. The main drawback is that the Vita only has 2 shoulder buttons, so the control schemes often end up utilising the back touch pad which I don't find comfortable.

I read recently that Sony were carrying out a survey which asked how interested people would be if Sony brought Remote Play to other devices such as Apple devices or the Switch. I doubt anything will come of it but PS4 Remote Play on the Switch would be fantastic.
