Uncharted 4 is a step above the earlier games, so you will have to lower your expectations if your start with that. You will also meet characters that are important in the prequels. I would go for the collection first and then Uncharted 4. It will be a long slog, but worth it.

I played Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy (loved both) and then tried playing Uncharted 1 and gave up.

I'm gonna give 2 a go at some point though.

Uncharted 2 is such a massive improvement on Uncharted 1 that you would struggle to ever play 1 if you play them out of order.

I would play them in order, especially if you're in it for the story.

None of them are brilliant IMO but 2-4 are definitely very enjoyable. I would just play them in order, 1 has the most issues but is still fun enough and is relatively short. If necessary just stick it on easy and blast through to get the story.

Might as well start at the beginning. The first game isn’t very long anyway (unless you’re going for 100% completion).

Personally, Id go 4 and Lost legacy. They show off the PS4's capabilities as well as provide all the others do. If you like them then go and look at the earlier work. Both 4 and lost legacy are excellent.

So I started playing Jedi Fallen Order and I’ve decided to deactivate HDR in the PS4 Pro menu. It just looks so washed out and the complete opposite of what HDR is supposed to be.

I have an LG 4K TV, I have the picture mode set to Game Mode, does anyone else have HDR issues? Is it just the way it’s being implemented right now or is it a TV issue? I remember HDR on Resi 2 Remake being god awful as well

What's the LG model? OLED? A couple of years ago LG changed the firmware and intentionally made it look rather poor in Game Mode. They released the following statement:

"Regarding HDR Game mode and darkness – a recent firmware update is based on changes to the gradation and saturation settings for HDR Game Mode, to ensure a better picture quality in HDR game mode. To implement this, the gradation was enhanced and the saturation was reduced. In the previous version of HDR Game Mode, the picture settings were similar to the Standard Mode settings, offering brighter images. Compared to previous picture settings the picture may look darker, but in fact, the new PQ setting brings improvements in terms of HDR gaming experience. For users who prefer a brighter image, they can adjust the Dynamic Contrast setting of Game Mode.”

You can overcompensate for this by turning Dynamic Contrast and Brightness up.

Alternatively, and depending on your model, try opening "Quick Settings" on your LG TV, select "Picture Mode", and then "HDR Effect" mode. You can then adjust HDR content from Light, Medium and High.

The actual reason I believe they changed it all is because they were worried about screen burn-in.

Some games such as Resident Evil 2 are just rubbish with it though.

Hmmm my model is a 43UJ635V, not sure if this is a good model or not but I know it’s not an OLED.

So is it best to not run things in Game Mode then? I have tried that HDR effect option and neither option looked particularly great.

Anyone picking up Spelunky 2 today?

My Sony TV has input lag higher than most sets even in Game and I can’t notice the difference, so if you’re happy playing in any of the other presets carry on. Just seems a shame though because HDR when done well makes a big difference, though I know how drab a washed out picture can look as standard BBC iPlayer in 4K on the PS4 Pro is exactly the same (I have to swap settings over to the otherwise ghastly “Vibrant”).

With Mario All Stars out on Friday, I am forcing myself to resist. Very aware that I could easily end up putting two weeks of gaming into Spelunky 2, so I want to commit to giving it my full attention - feels like a perfect Christmas game to binge.

I have the B8S (the bottom of the range OLED from a couple of years ago). It looks great in game mode with HDR. Its only about 600 nits, but the the contrast between that and proper blacks is exceptional.

I had an 8 bit panel before that and HDR just looked dreadfull.

How much do second hand PS4's (original model) go for nowadays? A mate's offered to buy mine off me once I've got the PS5 in November so I want to be sure we're both getting a fair deal.

Check the buy and sell prices at CEX/Game then just go down the middle. The actual going price will probably be different once the PS5 is out.
