13.5 million PS4s shipped in total. Crazy! Are sales going to go even higher once the majority of games are not on 360/PS3? Or maybe it won't really make much difference as I think most games are already selling quite a bit more on the new machines compared to the old ones.

PS4 looks to be the defacto console for multiplats regardless of a previous gen version. It's weird how a system is selling so well with so few exclusives out or even announced. I like to think the public have heard how great Resogun, Velocity 2 X, Pix the Cat, Rogue Legacy and Hohokum are.

Every time I read the word 'Hohokum', I can't help but feel it reads like a stage direction from that independent film, I Saw Mummy Fuckíng Santa Clause.

Judging by the comments I see on the Playstation Facebook posts, the general public hate those type of games you listed.

:) The 'general public' do seem to love Destiny though, I know so many people that are playing and are really into that game who normally wouldn't go near anything that isn't FIFA or COD.

Apparently, 13.5 million is roughly what the Wii shipped after 12 months of release. Which is frankly phenomenal that something that's nearly twice as expensive has managed to match it. Admittedly, the PS4 had the advantage of not having too bad of a supply shortage, but still.

Over 16 million sold

http://bgr.com/2014/12/17/ps4-sales-black-friday/

VGChartz reports that Sony sold 1,193,346 PlayStation 4 consoles during the week of Black Friday alone, bringing total lifetime sales to over 16 million.

Not sure whether the figure includes anything after November though.

In comparison, Microsoft announced they had shipped 10 million Xbox One units 2 weeks prior to Black Friday, not clear whether they've been sold though.

Isn't VGCharts (yeah, strawberry float off with the 'z', VGC) meant to be a iffy source? They don't trust 'em over on GAF.

I don't think they are deliberate, but they used to use a small portion of actual outlets and then multiply them by retailers to come up with their figures.

Yes?

18.5m sold to consumers worldwide.

4.1m of those during the "holidays". (WW that is between Nov 23 - Jan 04)

10.9m PS+ subs.

Wow. Can't imagine what numbers it'll do this year when some top notch software launches.

They aren't doing what we want, they're doing what they have to do after a failed attempt to strawberry float us.

Pretty much this. The parity bullshit is also pissing a lot of people off and if it is found ms are enforcing parity between third party releases there will be a major fallout!

Wow, I wasn't even expecting this.

This completely trounces the original Wii's 13.5m shipped by the same time. How long did the Wii take to reach 100m?

As for Xbox One apparently 'closing the gap', with MS only having shipped 10m just before the holidays this adds weight to the nearly 2:1 global sales ratio.

Anyway, well done Sony, staggering sales. Odd how they didn't wait til after this weekend's China launch, they could've tallied it up to 19m.

Easy one to answer. People who like to complain tend to post on the internet. People who are happy tend not to post. There are doubtless many who'd like full price commercial stuff monthly on PS4 through Plus already but that would be ridiculous, and commercial suicide. Although they've given us about one and a half of them in the last couple of months...

No, Wii shipped 20.1m by this point which was virtually a sold number at the time - http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2008/0 ... pdf#page=8

Microsoft must be kicking themselves as this is pretty much all their doing after that disastrous 2013

Pretty incredible numbers for a console with a very lackluster list of exclusive games. Hopefully the big guns start coming now starting with Bloodbourne in a few months.
