The only territory where the Xbox brand might be bigger, for a younger audience anyway, would be USA. The casuals that MS have captured with Kinect have shown they're not the type to buy a new console, as the Wii U has shown. You might not think the hardcore gamers will decide who sells the most consoles next generation, but they'll certainly start things off, word of mouth will have a big influence, and from my experience with retail, gullible members of public tend to follow rather than lead. If all their mates are buying a certain console, that's cheaper, and according to said mates has "better graphics", that's what they'll go for.

The problem with this theory is that a lot of 360 owners will automatically move to the XBO. Take this forum for example, a lot of hardcore 360 fans don't care about the PS4 hardware being better, the PS4 being cheaper or any damage MS have done to themselves. These people have access to this forum and all of the internet. Now think of those who have a 360, don't go on forums but read all the 360 magazines. They probably won't even know about the console differences and what has happened and will still be buying an XBO.

Well while there will always be the loyal fan who won't change no matter what, it appears general opinion on many forums has shifted in favour of playstation, it's a big change from when PS3 launched. Polls also seem to suggest this, as well as number of preorders. What's worrying for Microsoft is these forums and polls tend to be taken from the USA and UK, the only places where Xbox has a lead, if opinion has shifted so drastically in these territories, what chance is there that playstation dominated territories will shift to Xbox? Right now there is no chance, unless something drastic changes. We have to wait and see obviously, but selling over 1m consoles in 24 hours is a very impressive start in USA.

Not really. I'd have spent £50 on it anyway....

I don't think forums really represent the majority of gamers TBH. Just gave my son and his friend (who is getting an XBO on Friday) a lift home and his friend had no idea about the hardware differences, is getting Ryse as one of his games and the rest are multiformat! I will be very surprised if XBO sales will fall as some are expecting.

Forums are just an example of how opinions have shifted, reports of preorder numbers from major retailers suggests it's a lot wider spread, the first 24h in USA suggests the preorder numbers aren't meaningless. Still not long now to find out how well XO does in USA in it's first 24h. Not that that will end the debate, but it will give an idea of early demand in a country where 360 dominated.

On the way to the cinema with my mate yesterday, we decided to call in to a few retailers so could 'try' and get a PS4 pre-order down even though we knew there was no chance of release day. Game told us he'd be lucky to get a PS4 in January but they still had Xbones for release day. Every other shop said the same about getting a PS4 after Xmas.

Because in Liverpool they can't afford anything above £400. That is like 6 weeks of signing on for them, bit much .

In all seriousness I've worked from the day I left school. Dblock comes across as the type to be claiming child benefits and such which is probably whats funding his console purchases.

Agree garly. I'm only joking

Dblock probably only knows of Liverpool because of the football thread.

Sorry to re-tread old ground, but that is a line-up screaming out for some originality.

My last launch console, the PS2, at least had Timesplitters and SSX which felt all shiny and new.

Looking on the bright side, at least the dearth of software will give me time to pay off the console itself... :|

Resogun. We're going to play Resogun.

Or at least, I'm going to play it. The rest of you will fail at it.
