To be fair, it is the mighty PS4 sales thread and not the "we've also sold consoles" XBO thread.

Yes?

Nobody cares when you have the same result each month, it's only interesting when say the 3DS beat both PS4 and X1.

Sony: PS4 market share "frequently greater than 90 per cent in continental Europe"

Sony Europe president Jim Ryan is bullish - to say the least - about PlayStation 4 performance in Europe.

"We have a very significant market leadership," he told VG247. "Well, we have market leadership in every country in Europe, and have very significant market leadership in continental Europe. Extremely significant. I don't think market share's any less than 70 per cent, and frequently greater than 90 per cent in continental Europe."

PlayStation 4 passed 2m sales in the UK in May. Xbox One passed 1m sales in the UK in November.

PlayStation is historically strong in Europe, and when I visited Poland I was told (anecdotally I'm afraid) the sales gap was even more exaggerated there. Eurogamer Poland said there were no official numbers available. Eurogamer Germany told me PS4 had sold 1.6m units there as of 31st March 2015. Eurogamer Spain told me Sony Spain boss James Armstrong mentioned 700,000 PS4 sales at E3. Portugal's numbers are much smaller, the PS4 having passed 100,000 units there according to Eurogamer Portugal.

Bear in mind that Microsoft didn't launch Xbox One across all of Europe when the console first appeared, in autumn 2013. Only the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Ireland were involved. Poland and other regions in Europe had to wait until September 2014 for their launch. PlayStation 4, on the other hand, was available in all of those countries by end of 2013.

Sony's latest financial results show 22.3m PS4 consoles have been sold worldwide, but Xbox One sales are harder to come by as Microsoft isn't gloating. The last real total is from November - 10 million shipped - which not only makes it out of date but also a bit misleading (shipped). By March 2016, Sony expects to have sold around 38m PS4s.

Both PS4 and Xbox One are outselling their predecessors at comparable times in their lifecycles - the PS4 is even outpacing the PS2, which represents a high watermark for Sony's console success. That old console has sold more than 155m units today.

Sony is just about to launch (15th July) a 1TB PS4 console in Europe dubbed the Ultimate Player Edition. All that is different is 500GB extra storage, and it's selling for around £349.99 - GameStop still has a ludicrously low price of £289.97.

FY2015 Q1: 3m

Total: 25.3m

They've increased their WW forecast for this year, by 500k (16.5), meaning they hope to sell 38.8m by March 31 2016.

I keep thinking it's going to slow down, but there's really no sign of that, is there?

The games are only going to get better, too. Aside from Uncharted, and eventually the TLOU sequel, the big multi-platform games will also help to carry sales in a major way. I'm looking at you, Star Wars.

In a way this is bad news for me as it will more than likely delay any thought of PS5 as I always enjoy the speculation and rumours that pop up when a new gen is on the horizon. PS4 may even see this decade out without a replacement.

Doubt it. Microsoft will want to drop the Bone as soon as possible, they are going to learn from this and come back with a beast.

It's amazing that they emulated all the mistakes sony made with the ps3 at launch. It really goes to show that you need to have the right people in place for the development and launch of a console. I can't imagine the strawberry float ups with the bone launch would have happened had Spencer been in charge then. Watch the interview with the 3 former (2 current) heads of Xbox that IGN put out a few weeks ago. Everything that Peter Moore said contributed to the early success of the 360 was backtracked for the One.

They couldn't of had a worse E3 if they tried. Completely destroyed their user base with the nonsense that was said. If Spencer is still at the helm by the xbone successor, we'll see a very, very different mentality.

For context, they're up 300k over this time last year. Friendly reminder that the Xbox family shipped 1.4m in about the same time period, so we're talking at best 2:1. Also, I doubt between Nintendo and the Vita would make up the remaining 1.6 million, which means the PS4 makes up the majority of worldwide dedicated console shipments this past quarter.

The bad news is that they're falling behind the Wii's launch aligned shipment numbers. The good news is that they're still quite far ahead of the PS2.

I don't think it will compete with the first four years of the Wii, but I imagine it will keep selling far longer than that console. It's kind of nuts to even compete with the PS2 when a fairly major market in Japan has more or less disappeared since those days.

I don't think MS emulated Sony's mistakes at all. They put together a fairly decent proposal, but Sony put out a better one, at least in terms of what punters want.
