My PS5 internet connection is running ridiculously slow right now. I don't think it's a general issue as speedtest is showing that my net is running at the usual speed.

I was downloading a game update and the internet was running like a dog again. I looked into network settings and established that the PS5 was connecting to my wifi on the 2.6 GHz path rather than 5 GHz. I set it up for 5 GHz and it immediately ran much better!

I don't know why it changed to the lower band; the console must have done this itself.

It could be, BOR. I just couldn't work out why it was so slow when my PS4 and computer were running just fine. It must have been some sort of reset, although it didn't lose the connection; it just went with the lower rate. Oh well, sorted now :-).

I got fed up trying to find PlayStation Portal in stock anywhere, so bought a cheap phone cradle off Amazon, which attaches to a controller for remote play.

It worked pretty well on my connection. I tested it with an online game of Call of Duty and it was responsive enough that I made a decent number of kills. Funny enough, I also learned today how to connect a PS5 controller to my laptop using Bluetooth (I'd previously done it wired). It's nice to have a couple of options for using the PS5 whilst the main tv is in use!

Cheers for this! Since moving to my new house my PS5 has been 'slow' in downloads, I've got 1GB internet and was getting only about 25mb on WiFi.

Just changed the setting to 5 GHz and it's now at 400+mb.

Now installing the games.

One thing of note so far, after updating the controller software, it got stuck on a screen with sparkly bits and wouldn't do anything. I restarted the console using the power button and that sorted it. Seems to be an issue with the slim console as I had to look up the solution.
