Edit: Yeah, they're both playable at the Extra tier.

Thank you, I know they're available on Extra - but thought if I was going to do it may as well go Premium as its only a couple of quid dearer.

I was hoping to confirm I could just do a one off payment via voucher (i.e. without having to give my bank details) and if there were an extra steps required to join the subscription or if I could just play the games straight away - anyone know, thank you :D

You can just use a voucher. The best price for vouchers at the moment are probably ShopTo who currently have £20 vouchers for £16.85 and £90 vouchers for £74.85.

Unsubbed from PS+ Extra got my one month games, Returnal and Miles Morales played to a degree I'm happy with and saved £50 in doing so. Until the ND multiplayer game comes out I think this is just how I'll play this gen. Means I'll do less of the launch day excitement which is a shame but I'll save a few hundred a year and Sony can strawberry float off so I'm happy with it.

I signed up for a month today on Premium Plus. Only having previously subscribed Nintendo Expansion Pass; Premium Plus is bloody good. I'm much more of a Nintendo guy, so there's not loads for me personally-but undeniably there are loads of games in general. To be fair most of the games I purchased outright are available on Plus. I only got it for Stray and Returnal, but there are a bunch of old platformers I want to try. I like that you have the option to download or stream. No complaints at all, I think its really good value.

Stray.

Completed it. It's a brilliant little game and the cat is cute. So enjoyable and it's something different to play!

Playing the PS5 remaster of Uncharted Lost Legacy at the moment. It's an unbelievably good looking game. I'm also really enjoying the slightly more open nature of the world - I have spent the past couple of days hunting down all the tokens (each of which is hidden behind a slightly different type of gaming challenge), and was pleased to find a reward that makes the treasure hunting far more interesting and not just a case of investigating every corner. Normally I would not even bother with the collectables aspect, but now I feel far more compelled to.

I read that it happens quite frequently when there is "enable hdmi link" or something switched on, however I think that effects it mainly when switching the TV on. Mine is literally starting up after I switch everything off which is quite odd. Been happenning for a while too (most of the time actually)

Most fixes I have found are for when it switches on with the tv, but no solutions for ps5s that switch on randomly in the middle of the night (unless its the cat :shifty: )

I have been toying with the idea of either selling it to someone or give it to my nephew (depends on how generous i feel on the day) so I am trying to see if this issue is some hardware malfunction, in which case selling it to third parties is a no go.

Turns out that the fix for this issue, was that I was leaving the TV on the source of the ps5 when swithing off, I have started swithing to a different source before swithing off and the ps5 is not turning on randomly after I switch it off anymore.... so far.

I started Lake yesterday on PS5. It's a bit rickety, and feels like a PS2 game upscaled to 4K (particularly at the lack of animations, such as when entering your mail truck, where the screen simply fades to black and a second later you're just in the truck, the camera abruptly panning up from almost under the game floor) but it's reasonably enjoyable. I fear it's going to be a game where not an awful lot happens - imagine playing the opening to Mafia when he's a taxi driver, but rather than ending up in the mafia and it ALL KICKING OFF, he just remains a taxi driver for the rest of the game - though I am interested to see how the relationships with the townsfolk plays out. About 2 hours in, and there are 2 characters that scream 'WE'RE THE POTENTIAL LOVE INTEREST'. Hopefully one of them gets shot and thrown into the lake, therefore turning the whole thing into a murder mystery...or you just go around delivering mail for 2 weeks and the game ends. I guess we'll see.

Temper your expectations. That's all I will say.

And depending on your choices, they can both end up in the lake. Also, the lake catches fire

I played that on Game Pass and it was far better than it had any right to be.

I agree. I was playing it at the same time as Death Stranding on PS5. It was like an experiment in how far you could strip back the underlying principle of a game and still get away with it.

Played a bit more Lost Legacy "remaster".

I love the trinket you get for detecting treasure and how it uses the haptics to indicate which way you need to go. That, combined with the (less effective but still cool) light bar colour and intensity changing is one of those very smart little things that makes PS5 feel "premium".

Folders!

At last, next gen has truly arrived :datass: .

Kotaku wrote:The PS5 is also introducing game folders, which Sony calls “gamelists.” In previous years, there were simply not enough games on the console to justify having folders.

Had another of those sporadic, weird glitches this evening that meant, upon turning the PS5 on, the console wouldn’t recognise the controller or remote control. Screen just stayed on the pulsating PlayStation logo. So I had to put the console into the orange rest mode by pressing the power button on the system, just unplug it from the mains, connect the controller by USB and then it accepted the controller.

Did you play the PS4 version by any chance? I'm curious if it's worth a tenner to replay on PS5.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

No, but I did play the PS4 and PS5 version of UC4 and the 60fps boost made a massive difference to the shooting (namely the aiming). I would say it’s worth it.

PushSquare wrote:Sony has shipped 21.7 million PS5 systems to retailers as of 31st June 2022, the firm confirmed in its financial results for Q1 of fiscal year 2022. 2.4 million consoles were shipped during that three-month period, which represents a slight increase of 100,000 across the same period for the previous fiscal year. In terms of overall profit, Sony has lowered its projected forecast by $0.4 billion due "to an expected decrease in sales of first-party titles".

Decent figures although supply is really going to have to ramp up if sales for the year are to meet Sony's forecast.

PushSquare wrote:...sales of PS5, PS4 software reached 47.1 million, which is a significant drop compared to the 63.6 million units sold in the same quarter for fiscal year 2021.

At a time when a new console has arrived and is in high demand, it's perhaps a surprise that software sales are down pretty considerably. Tightening consumer belts and higher game pricing could be having an effect here.
