Hardly unexpected, but CEX's buy for cash price was slashed by over 100% between yesterday and today. (it's £10 as of now.) So yeah, I'll be holding on to mine until I see it increase a bit more.

Mine is arriving tomorrow apparently, still can't quite believe I got it for £16 when it was £100 at Christmas.

If you can mentally look past the fact almost everything is inferior to sticking the original discs in a PS3, and have a smaller 720p HDTV knocking around, there's still a lot of fun to be had playing it. For 15 quid you can't go wrong, as you'll never be able to play these selection of games for that low a price.

Look on the brightside - if you had a SEGA Saturn instead of a PS1, you can finally experience a superior and yet still inferior version of Resident Evil and Destruction Derby 23 years later...

Modding it by replacing the emulator and adding extra games is clearly the way to go.

Has anyone modded it to look exactly like the UK pal machine in the menus?

And if you go the modding route then make sure it's all NTSC/US games you add. Though with Autobleem there was an option per game to increase the framerate or was it the Hz to 60 instead of 50 :shifty:

I'll be using roms/isos from the google drive so I'm not entirely sure which region they are.

Currently trying to find out which version of autobleem to use and decided whether it's necessary to do the power mod or not.

Christ this thing is awwwwful :dread:

(Mostly) Piss poor selection of games, awful UI, no display options, blury screen.

It looks the part, but I'd be livid if I'd paid full price for it. I feel ripped off at £16.

Well yes, it should obviously never have been released in that state. I forced myself to play through every included game for at least ten minutes, and there are only a couple I'd return to, and even then probably not for very long. Tekken was an absolute stinker

It's amazing how they got this so wrong, for what is a cracking looking and beautifully presented / packaged thing. If only they'd got the software right.

Given the number of amazing games available for a PS1 classic console it's hard to see why they chose this bunch of games.

It's not like Sony don't have a load of good technical people who can bang out something like this with ease which just adds to the mystery.

I don’t think the headline game selection is bad, especially for under 20 quid (it doesn’t exactly get much bigger than Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil and Ridge Racer 4) nor could you purchase them anywhere else cheaper, it’s just that they’re really poor ports. With Nintendo you know you’re playing what in probably 99% of cases is the best version available.

Without a lot of technical wizardry (that we might see on PS5), these games just aren’t meant to be played on a big TV either, let alone a 4K one. I have the Classic and PS3 connected to a 21 inch 720p TV and that feels like the second best option (the OLED Vita being the perfect fit).

5th generation games in general have aged terribly and yeah, they look even worse on modern TVs. They were the first proper 3d/polygonal generation, whereas the 4th generation 2d games were the apex of that graphical era, hence why the Mega Drive and SNES games sill look great today.

My Amazon order hasn't been despatched and now they're telling me they 'need a little more time.'

On another note, just scanning around online, it does seem that the ps classic is the modders' console of choice.

I'm guessing that's a combination of the fact there are loads of them, that Sony seem to have been pretty slack with their own software security (seemingly using a third party emulator themselves), having accessible USB ports, and also having chips that are capable of delivering better performance than their own included software demonstrated.

I've seen some people on YouTube install a raspberry pi inside it, which looks like a fun project for people who are into that sort of thing, but seems to me that in that case you're basically just getting the classic for the shell.

I've not installed Autobleem yet, but that seems like a fun and relatively simple project to do, not least because even if you don't use it to play any other games you have, you can use it to improve the display options for the games that come with the machine. So, I might give it a go to see how it works.

The one thing I've been thinking about, though is the copyright position if I did download other stuff, or just play one of the preloaded sticks from amazon or wherever. Mainly I've been thinking that it's weird that there is almost no other way to play some of these games.

As one example; one of the preloaded packs you can buy on one of the true blue sticks is a little known (and little missed) game called Batman and Robin, based on the terrible (and little missed) film. Now, already that is a mess of image rights and licensing agreements.

But however bad it was, to some kid somewhere at the time that will be one of their favourite games, and as an adult they'll want to play it for the nostalgia rush. Yet, no-one is selling it digitally anywhere, so you can't play it. Unless you still own the disc and a machine that supports it, that game is lost forever.

And yet at the same time, no-one is making any money off it either. According to wiki, it was released under licence by Acclaim (now deceased), and developed by a studio they worked with called Probe Entertainment (also no more).

On going bust, Acclaim sold on their remaining IPs to others, but I doubt that included this game, as it was licenced by Warner Bros and DC Comics. Neither of whom seen under any immediate rush to release that game anywhere else, even if they were able to, themselves.

So, who loses out by them including this game? Not anyone involved in making or licensing it, not Sony who have already sold you the console and aren't selling extra games (and probably couldn't unravel the rights here even if they were).

Probably just you if you play it, I suspect
