Almost makes you think Sony will just replace it with a Dual Shock Edition with some new games.

If it drops to £25 I'll buy one to put different emulators on

I've not been keeping up with gaming news, but I heard it's possible to get more games onto the system via a USB converter or something?

Or you could put it towards the cost of a game purchase in February.

Yes as with the nes/snes classics you can add more games. I'd imagine soon that you'll be able to pretty much wipe the thing and put better emulation, UI and games on it. THEN it'd be worth it.

The Mod My Classic (Formerly Hakchi) team have ways to change things on the unit itself I believe, they're just holding back on releasing it because they're still working on ways to backup and restore the unit's factory defaults.

If you're going to that trouble why not just get a Pi or use a laptop/pc with launchbox, which are probably both easier to set up and you can have multiple systems in one place?

I do use my PC and laptop, and I do have originals. I just like the look of the classic. Not enough to buy one now, but enough to buy one once the ability to play with its internal workings becomes more open.

If you want to play PlayStation 1 games properly, either buy a PS1 or PS2 off eBay and use one of those HDMI converters, or even better just buy a new PS3. That way you can buy them for peanuts off the PS Store or purchase the original discs, many of which can now be picked up like new, or literally new, on eBay and Amazon if you're paying attention. I'm yet to encounter anything that the PS3 can't play properly (though I think there may be a few anomalies).

If you just want a casual experience for a few weeks however, I think the PS Classic is worth the £40-50 quid, in spite of its many flaws.

Vita is also exceptional; the smaller screen and OLED making the games look their best.

How much would you be looking at for a PS3 these days?

My current PS3 is a fatty but a fatty after the PS2 stuff was removed from it.... It actually died for the first time about a week ago, every time I powerd it on it turned itself off , I went inside it and basically removed all the dust and its now golden, working good as ever.. I thought this was worth brining up for anyone who comes across a cheap older model and considers it... I found it a lot easier to work on than a 360.

I suppose the loss with using a PS1/PS2/PS3/Vita is you lose the various enhancement options an emulator can give you.

Interesting.... was it giving a yellow light or flashing red light, or similar?
I've binned a couple of ps3s in the past because of that, since it seemed they were beyond simple repair from a google.

It was green when I pressed on then a beep noise and it went red.. if you pressed it then it went green again and almost imediatly back to red. As soon as I gave it a good clean it just stayed green and worked

There's a 15% off code on ebay until 8pm tonight, brings a PS Classic to around £43 (from Argos, Shopto, etc.). Getting towards impulse purchase now, but will still hold on to see if it goes lower.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-PlaySta ... 2921951998

£42.49 with code POWPOW15
