To be fair, the PS1 version of R2 isn't really ideal. Though granted I imagine the same could be said for Rainbow Six...

Hopefully this thing does have save states for Rayman, that game gets unbelievably brutal later on.

Needed those really, unless it came be hacked and has extra space I'll be canvelling.

To me WipEout and Tomb Raider are two PlayStation icons.

The list is pretty poor.

I'm assuming licencing and not wanting to hit sales of remakes (e.g. SOTN) drove it.

Some good games in there, but as Maf pointed out there are some glaring omissions. The PS Classic might make for a nice piece in a collection, but that's about it.

I think it's a really great selection on the whole, but there's about 4 titles there for me (Revelations: Persona, Twisted Metal, Jumping Flash! & the ABSOLUTELY strawberry floating TERRIBLE Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six) that don't need to be there.

A Tomb Raider is the big one. Very strange why Square wouldn't turn that one over.

They've chosen the right Destruction Derby though. :datass:

Decent list of games, but certainly not worth £90.

And actually Parasite Eve is a far better addition for Japan than Intelligent Qube.

Rainbow Six is a totally wasted slot. A game so utterly diabolically strawberry floating useless OPM gave it 3/10 back in 1999. In 2018? MINUS 5 STARS.

Behave. When I think of the 90s, of the Playstation, of gaming becoming mainstream and "cool", I think of 2 things:

1 - the PS1 startup sound; and
2 - Rainbow Six

This game revolutionised console gaming, bringing cinema-level storytelling, set-pieces, characters, gameplay and music. It's a stone-cold classic and has been at the forefront of the gaming scene ever since Hideo Kojima first unleashed Solid Sna-... oh I've been thinking of Metal Gear Solid haven't I?

Seriously - why is R6 on this thing? Such a random choice  :fp:

Dunno, can't be worse than MGS though.

They have to be kidding on that game selection. None of these games have a regular french and german versions, and i mean by that comprehensible ones. French FFVII even has profanity in it because the sole translator didn't know about a lot of japanese words. They had to use dictionnary word-by-word translation, and even several parts are still with kanji because of how rushed the thing was..! French translations really became a thing with the N64,PS2 and onwards.
Considering how overhyped it is in europe,it's going to be a bad surprise for everyone concerned ^^;

Also,RE:Director's cut .. that soundtrack is gonna sound great, let me tell you haha.

If the games are the US 60Hz versions (likely as 'Intelligent Qube' isn't referred to as Kurushi, its European title) then they'll almost certainly only have an English language option. If they're the PAL 50Hz versions they'll have the dodgy localisations, though there's also be loads of people importing if that's the case :p

Doeragynn wrote:Also,RE:Director's cut .. that soundtrack is gonna sound great, let me tell you haha.

This isn't the 'dualshock' version of the Director's cut, the one which features the new soundtrack. Director's Cut (non-dualshock) is the best RE1 to go with as it has improvements over the original (main one being inclusion of auto aim from Japanese version) while still having the original OST:

excerpt from Wikipedia wrote:Director's Cut
An updated version, Resident Evil: Director's Cut, was released for PlayStation in September 1997, a year and a half after the original game. Director's Cut was produced to compensate for the highly publicized delay of the sequel, Resident Evil 2, and was originally bundled with a playable pre-release demo of that game. The Japanese version of the demo disc also included a pre-release demo of Rockman Neo, later retitled Rockman DASH (Mega Man Legends outside Japan), and a trailer for the newly released Breath of Fire III.

The main addition to Director's Cut is an "arranged" version of the game that changes the location of nearly every vital item in the mansion, as well as the enemy placement. The main characters, as well as Rebecca, are given a new wardrobe and the player's handgun is replaced by an improved model where any shot fired has a random chance of decapitating a zombie, killing it instantly. The original version of the game is included as well, along with a new "beginner" mode where the enemies are easier to kill and the amount of ammunition that can be found by the player is doubled. Additionally, the auto-aim function was restored in all modes, though it is not noted in the in-game controls.

The North American and European releases of the Director's Cut were marketed as featuring the original, uncensored footage from the Japanese releases. However, the full motion video (FMV) sequences were still censored, and Capcom claimed the omission was the result of a localization mistake made by the developers. The uncensored intro was later offered as a free download from their website.[35] The French and German PAL versions of Director's Cut do feature the uncensored intro FMV in color, however the French and German PAL version lacked the uncensored Kenneth death scene despite having the uncensored introduction FMVs in color. Although the PC version of Resident Evil was not billed as the director's cut version of the game, it is the only version of Resident Evil that has all of the uncensored FMVs, which includes the uncensored introduction, Kenneth's death scene in its entirety, and ending as well.

Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver.
A third version for the PlayStation, Dual Shock Ver, co-produced by Keiji Inafune, was released in August 1998. It features support for the DualShock controller's analog controls and vibration functions, as well as a new symphonic soundtrack, replacing the original soundtrack by Makoto Tomozawa, Koichi Hiroki, and Masami Ueda. The symphonic music was credited to composer Mamoru Samuragochi,[36] although he admitted in 2014 that he directed his orchestrator Takashi Niigaki to ghostwrite the new soundtrack.[37] The Japanese Dual Shock Ver. came packaged with a bonus disc that contained downloadable save data, footage of the unused Japanese dubbed versions of the live-action cutscenes, along with brief gameplay footage of the canceled original version of Resident Evil 2.

In North America, Resident Evil: Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver. was later released as a downloadable game available from the PlayStation Network.[38] although the game is advertised with the original Director's Cut box art. In Japan and Europe, the original Director's Cut was instead made available from the PlayStation Network.

A rough estimate for all of the games boxed (except Persona because it was never released PAL) is £217. Weirdly Twisted Metal is the most expensive boxed game I could find averaging £40 on ebay. Followed less surprisingly by Wild Arms at £28. Half the games are under £10 boxed, with some as low as £3 (looking at you RRT4).The remainder sit in the mid-teens.

My guess is they asked for Rayman and Ubisoft wanted 2 games on the billing and this was all they could come up with...

Not horrendous but I have a better collection of PS1 games on my Vita and I don't have to mess around plugging that into a TV.

I think to be a worth a purchase, they need to be games that were (and remain) original, and didn't strain the hardware in such a way that they look terrible now. So although MGS was a technical achievement, it still holds up well, and obviously FF7 is a shoe-in. But if you like fighting games, you don't really need Tekken 3 now, for example...
