In the final years of the original OPM there were two games readers repeatedly requested to be re-ran on the disc: Theme Hospital and Mr Driller. It's a very good puzzle game.

Syphon Filter is good, but outclassed by 2 and 3. Same could be said of London/GTA2. I think Cool Boarders 3 was better than 2, but 2 made more of an impact in 1998. At least they didn't put 4 on there. And while I've always preferred Destruction Derby, I'm sure many would say 2 was better.

Still, such was my mastery of DD1 I could finish first and max out the score at 99 on most tracks. Far more track variations than in 2 as well.

I remember buying R6 as a budget release and finding it awful.

Goes to show how much the PS1 relied on third parties/licensed games. For example I'd love Tony hawk but between his name no longer being under Activision and the many music tracks it was never going to happen.

All the Tomb Raider games were 99p each on the PlayStation Store a couple of weeks ago, so I find it extremely odd Square Enix said no when they're considered to be that worthless. Even a game now worth LESS THAN ONE POUND would have been better than Rainbow Shat. Just to be able to have original Lara Croft featured on the back of the box.

We didn't believe

The only reason I can think is that they don't want to harm sales of the remaster

That’s an odd lineup. No Wipeout? :fp:

Sony should have made it possible to connect to the Store so we could download other games. That list doesn’t make me want to buy one.

That is an odd lineup, not helped by the fact that the best games on it (MGS, FFVII, RE) are all readily available on other consoles either in their original form or remastered.

Abe's Oddysey is a great lesser known addition, although that too had a remake a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if Syphon Filter has aged well, and while I remember enjoying Rainbow Six (I loved how you could choose your entry point), from the reactions in here it sounds like it's probably not worth revisiting

Hopefully people buying these things can understand english then.. they're off to a bad surprise otherwise :dread:

£90 is a bit too spicy for me,if the price comes down,i'll eventually buy it,if it ever does.

Cancelled too after thinking about it. Too many games with better versions (Abes Odyssey, re:make), already ported elsewhere (FFVII, Rayman, GTA all have PC ports and there's a good Mr Driller for DS) or are just meh. Ridge Racer and Tekken are still good games. I don't think Twisted Metal has aged well controls wise.

I just don't think the software is there compared to the SNES classic.

There was about seven games that I assumed would be on this for sure, and only two are! Very odd.

No Crash, Wipeout or Parappa strikes me as very odd indeed. Some of the games that have made it are so odd, and may have been welcome with a more cultured choice of the other games, but this selection just feels so random.

I think its a fairly decent lineup.

With the odd exception there's something going for most of the games on there and there are a good number of top quality games to play. I don't know if you could realistically expect a whole lot more than that.

Well you could, very realistically. Wipeout and Tomb Raider could replace Rainbow 6 and Intelligent Qube for starters.

Except as discussed Wipeout probably has issues with licenced music and Tomb Raider probably isn't an easy get (plus isn't that great to control digitally).

There are reasons for games not being on this thing that go beyond 'its a PS classic' so should automatically be on there.

EDIT - Getting Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken and Ridge Racer onto this thing isn't some small doing. That's 5 huge PlayStation franchises.

Licencing etc aside for the likes of Wipeout and TR, there are still a stack of far superior games that could replace the two mentioned. Having a PS1 "Classic" then sticking a handful of classics titles on it next to mediocre and shite games is lame. Certainly not worth the £90 asking price.
