We've been here before. Same millions of people that bought the NES and SNES classic.

If this thing sells well, which I think it probably will, they’ll have no problems making another one (the PSone with hopefully back compatible Dual Shocks) for next Christmas. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why it is missing some of the more notable/better sequels.

In terms of headline acts without potential soundtracks and licensing issues, it’s not like they’re lacking titles (Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil 3, Destruction Derby 2, GTA2, another Final Fantasy).

I can't see this selling as well as the Mini SNES with this line up.

How's MGS going to work without the analogue sticks?

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Nintendo managed to put pretty much all of the games that defined those systems on them though.

So many defining PlaStation games missing here:

WipEout
Gran Turismo
Crash Bandicoot
Tomb Raider
Tony Hawk's
Spyro
PaRappa
Soul Blade
Ape Escape

I think the writing was on the wall when Jumping Flash and Wild Arms were in the initial unveiling

Pretty sure I played it with the DPad back in the day. In fact, I'm not sure I ever got the analogue dualshock.

I've been considering it since the full list came out yesterday, but I'm going to join the many cancelling their preorders. I don't think the line up is dreadful (though there are certainly some bigger names that haven't made the cut) but looking at it there just aren't enough of the 20 that I'm interested in playing/replaying.

Yes, Metal Gear Solid is definitely playable with the DPad. The only PS1 game I was ever aware of which required the analogue sticks was Ape Escape.

Cancelled my pre-order for this after the announcement of the games list. There's some really good stuff but I already own the vast majority of the games I'd want to play in their original form on Playstation. The ones I don't I could easily buy for less than the cost of the PS Classic.
Some of them like FF7 and MGS I already own digitally on at least one system.

It just feels like a real missed opportunity, one of the strengths of both the NES/SNES mini was that not only did they have the majority of games which defined those systems but they also had a selection of games that were either never released in Europe (Mario RPG, Earthbound), never released at all (Starfox 2) or have just become particularly expensive to buy in cartridge form (Castlevania, Megaman). Wild Arms and Persona are the only games on the PS Classic which really fall into this category and unfortunately neither are enough to sell the system for me. I'd have loved to have seen some more obscure titles which are expensive in their original form, like Kula World!

If it turns out to be easily hackable and/or has a decent price drop I may still pick one up but it's definitely not a must buy for me unfortunately.

Lineup sucks so it's a hard pass for me.

I don't get why they don't include LAN or Internet on these retro consoles and build in a store so you can download more games. With this, link it to PSN then any already purchased PSOne games could be made available to you with more available to buy.

If it was £90 with 20 games out the box and the option for you to buy more for say £3 or £4 a go, bet they'd rake in the money. I'd be a lot more tempted, especially as they've dropped PSOne support for the PS4 (assumedly for this).

I'd guess they've done the calcs on if it would be cost effective to manage that. It's not as simple as just getting a copy of the game and uploading it to a server for people to pay for and download. They have to make sure that's all done legally considering licencing etc.

Gutted by the reports so I've just cancelled my order at Amazon and ordered Batman: The Animated Series Blu-Ray to come tomorrow instead :toot:
