The manuals are up: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-h ... e-manuals/

Anyone hoping for the originals will be disappointed as they’re in greatly abridged form and without any of the artwork, graphics etc but I suppose that’s to be expected.

Aye, true. Though what I really meant with the USB plug thing was about the power cable for the machine itself, as KKlein seemed to have some trouble using a USB port / phone charger to just switch it on, and then needed to go and buy an extra plug.

Maybe that's an isolated thing, but if not it's a bit of a Christmas 'batteries not included' moment; it's not the cost it's the inconvenience. I still don't get why they didn't include these things with the Nintendo ones either. They must cost all of 30p or something to make?

I don't know if it was a conscious decision on Nintendo's part but I actually quite like that they didn't include one, the vast majority of people will not need one and donuts just another piece of waste electronics pushed out into the market that is going to get binned.

Bloody phone keyboards!

Now I really want a donut as well...

Mmmm...donuts...

Fair play about not putting unnecessary electrical clutter in the box, mind. Agreed. We've all got a drawer full of electrical stuff like that which we don't quite want to throw away, or don't know how to throw away, without it turning up on the news having killed some sealife.

It's just if it is a bit of a fiddle in this case to find the right thingamajig, then that's a bit of a shame.

Looking on social media and it looks like a few people are also having problems powering up the machine. :fp:

So the PlayStation classic is powered by a micro usb. But it has to go into a plug adaptor. My tv can’t power it, my Xbox can’t power it, my laptop can’t power it. Not a good start Sony

Already got mine... and what bothers me the most is that I can't charge it from the same TV USB that can charge the Vita TV or the snes mini... not even from my computer USBs... so hacking it will be troublesome...

I may have purchased and returned the PlayStation Classic on the same weekend. I’ll wait for a new revision or PS2 mini. A bit disappointed with emulation quality, also couldn’t get it to work directly with my TV/PC USB ports like Mini SNES. The console/controllers look great

So if you know someone getting this for Christmas do them a favour and let them know. Looks like if the USB isn’t the precise voltage it won’t work.

The one I got from them for my dreamcast was excellent, so I'd happily get one for the PlayStation.

Edit: saying that, the reviews don't look too great. I guess I can always just use my ps3.

Hm, might be worth a trip to Pound Stretcher for some of the ones you picked up then KK.
Got a picture of the packaging just incase?

Apparently some people have had luck powering it from their TV using a different USB cable as the one included is shite.

I threw the packaging away on the way home, but it’s white and looks like a knock off of an iPhone one.

You know what, I didn’t think of the cable actually. But come to think of it the HDMI cable bundled with the PS4 Pro was dodgy as well.

This will be because the specs say that it wants 1amp and USB from your TV or any piece of equipment won't provide 1amp. If it's a 3.0 port it'll provide a max of 900mA and if it's a 2.0 port it'll be 500mA. The Vita TV needs a max of 560mA and tests of the SNES mini show it averaging around 250mA with spikes into the 400mA area but never going over 500mA.

I picked up the Dreamcast version after your recommendation and love it. Makes playing Daytona brilliant. I've got this version on pre-order, it should be here in the next day or two so will find a suitable section on the forum to shove a little review once I've had a go with it.

The reason you often don't get usb power adapters (and they are meant to be USB due to an EU waste reduction directive which is good) in Europe anymore is not environmental, it's a cost saving measure because you can release one SKU/package for the whole continent instead of having to make 3 different bundles and AC pin designs, even if they're nearly always regulated and switchable power supplies anyway. One way around that is to include all 3 pin layouts as an attachment to the power adapter but again that's more expensive than simply not including a PSU at all.

I can't be the only only one who wants to hear more about the donuts, can I?

Looks like you should go to Pound Stretcher, buy all the remaining stock.
eBay them as "PlayStation Classic USB adapter - guaranteed to work £12.99".

That line about 'hacking it will be troublesome' stood out for me there. Deliberate move?

Turns out that you can change a lot of the settings by plugging in a USB keyboard and pressing escape.

I don't think so.
The unit just needs more current than a typical USB port provides.
