They've always had problems with their software, but this has to be the shoddiest, most disappointing product I can remember Sony ever releasing.

I'd love to know whether the software guys were just so inept it was the equivalent of asking me to do it, or if they were pushed for time so much by management they couldn't do any better.

Having spent over a week playing it, it's by no means a catastrophe to use or anything like that (apart from GTA and Rainbow Six, which is just beyond useless at this point), but it's impossible to escape the feeling 'why on earth am I playing this version of the game' throughout. And because of that it can only appeal to the most casual of users. The type of people that either stopped playing games post PS1 or changed systems and therefore want to revisit some of the games they remember over Christmas.

I feel like this is exactly who Sony are targeting with this, and they did a minimum effort job to maximise returns on it

That and at this point in the generation I think we're approaching peak arrogant sony again

They've basically ruined RR Type 4 there, it definitely didn't run that slowly on the original hardware.

That's not nice. Have you got the link to the Digital Foundry comment so I can see what they say? In the video comments the explanation given is that the PS1 emulator is properly configured on the SNES Mini but it isn't on the PS Classic.

I haven't but that video recently popped up in the ResetEra thread about the Classic and it was pointed out someone from DF went into a thread about the video I missed and pointed out how inaccurate it was.

In actual news, the Hakchi team (now known as Mod My Classic) have teamed with Libretro and ported Retroarch to the PS Classic with a better emulator,

I think the truth is we take for granted the emulators out there that are really marvellous feats of software engineering. You're recreating an extremely complex hardware configuration, each individual register at a very low assembly level, just to get stuff running at anything resembling good performance. However that requires a lot of work to get it running on low end mobile chips because you have to recompile things.

I think Sony gave an impossible deadline to their contractors, I seriously don't this was done internally or they would have used their own emulator (like Nintendo), and they got it up to an "acceptable" level for Sony and they chose to release it for sales potential. Given another 6 months it probably would have been a good product.

Of course open source development never ends, contributions are made all the time for passion and rarely for money (although they can get considerable donations from big fans), and there are literally NO deadlines ever. That's the difference.

That said, with Nintendo's emulation being so good, it beggars belief Sony had so little respect for their own prodigious content to release this in its current state. It really shows the difference between the two companies in an unfortunate light imo what with Nintendo's considerable company archives of actual products and development materials, and Sony certainly a bit more corporate with operations all over the place in many different hardware markets. They don't really have that nexus, I've always felt there's a bit of soul missing from the company despite how good their marketing can be.

The thing is PCSX ReArmed is capable of a lot, it's a mix of the hardware and however they forked it that's messed up.

Basically every bad decision they could have made they did in my opinion

Poor game choice
No dual shock
PAL!!!
Weak performance even on the NTSC titles
Higher cost than S/NES classic

Just an absolute wet fart

Thank you!

MrOrange says "This video is inaccurate. I've done the numbers on the PSC. It does not run *THAT* poorly. It's bad but there's something wrong with this guy's captures. Those initial flybys don't run that poorly."

So it's not clear if this is deliberate or just bad capture. Still, it's kind of funny that the SNES Mini can be made to run PS1 games.

Shifted 120,000 units in Japan during Week 1. The SNES managed 369,000 in 4 days.

Tutorial for the latest Bleemsync,

This lets you add new games by putting them on a USB stick connected to controller port 2.
Work is still on going for a Hakchi like tool that can use internal storage.

Can someone please avoid a ruined Christmas and link me to the AC Adapter that doesn’t come with it?!

KK picked up a knock off iPhone charger at Pound Stretcher that he said worked.

Also, try a different USB cable with a phone charger you already have. There's been multiple reports that using the same charger with a different cable works as the USB cable that comes with it is pretty bobbins.

Setting mine up this morning I can't say I had any issues.

Just used the supplied USB cable with a Samsung phone adapter and worked right away.

Such a shame. It looks really neat as well.

Thank God for emulation and my PS1 collection.
