Having seen how much time it takes downloading roms etc if you just want to play and don't enjoy the technical side and messing with all that then look for a cheap true blue is my advice as someone who has purchased a true blue and made there own stick... , we could arrange a SD card\usb postal round robin where we post something from person to person which would help speed things up.

Aww nuts. I wanted a spare, then accidentally bought two instead at £37 each just a few days ago.
Having said that, even then I'm not too gutted, and at £15 if you got it at that, it's a total steal.
I'd maybe recommend an 8 bit-do converter, which lets you use a PS4 controller on it if you plan to play it very much rather than mainly have it as a collector's item. But maybe wait till you've tried it first to see where you'll be on that scale
The classic controllers are good for nostalgia though, don't get me wrong. It's just that I've spent the last two evenings playing some of the games on this, thinking about how I'd review them, and I think I've developed playstation thumb, as well as really hating Rainbow 6 and Jumping Flash.
Still a beautiful machine which I've really enjoyed. I think everything went right with this except, stupidly, some of the included software.

£7.60 for two pints at my local. I don't have any friends so it's just me and the wife and a relatively cheap round.

Yesterday I was drinking in a friend's garden, in a haze I saw your post and ordered it. I'm not sure if I'm happy because I've nabbed a bargain (thank you), or angry because I wasted good money on outdated 3D games (wanker). But I have room next to my SNES mini and might end up playing MGS1 and Tekken 3, so for the price it's not a bad deal!

Wetherspoons do some doubles with mixer for £3.50 (so I've heard) so two of these makes a round £7, Bob's your uncle.

It's no way a waste, you'll get that back at least by selling it on. I also think these will only increase in value over time.
If you're not one for modding stuff, and I'm not, I'd consider the true blue mini (the crack pack version specifically), which is on Amazon as well. It makes this into the machine it should have been to start with.
As for Wetherspoons, it's steak day today in which you can get a steak, a jacket potato / chips and a pint for under £8. Chicken day is tomorrow, and that's more disappointing ever since they removed the 'half roast chicken' option.
So, either wait for curry Thursday or simply 'mod' your meal by drinking five pints and eating your own sandwich under the table. Or, for the true blue mini experience, simply order a deliveroo kfc for "table 47- Spoons" whilst downing pint after pint.
I may make a youtube video on these 'life hacks'.

The absolute minimum is three, as there needs to be the risk that someone can duck out in some way, and thence the opportunity for uncertainty to creep into what were previously solid friendships.

The TrueBlue - if it has 99 games on it I'm surprised it hasn't be blocked from sale for copyright reasons. If I find myself playing the Classic I will definitely look into it.

I figured this would be a sticking point|! Two drinks
does constitute a round! Sure it's the bare minimum but just imagine you go to the pub with a single friend and you each by drinks in turn, you don't call it a turn you call it a round! A modest round but a round nonetheless!
As we're on the subject I rue the day Wetherspoons stopped making Sunday roasts. Yes they were always a bland taste-wise, and sometimes you had to send it back to be microwaved because it was a bit cold but the value was great. A roast and a drink for £6.50-£7.50.

There was nothing more tragic than a spoons Sunday Roast, other than the Christmas Dinner abomination, which is usually also available to be defrosted throughout January by request. So, I don't mind if it's gone, as it came with a serving of sadness.
They now have a Sunday brunch option which, whilst is generally just a bad breakfast with chips, does also include a boil in the bag lamb shank with 'seasonal ' (i.e. mashed potatoes) 'vegetables'.
Still, it's about seven quid with a pint, so who cares what you're chucking in your face? They know.
