Don't think the price is too bad tbh. Trialling new games is a great idea (depending on how it's implemented).
Imagine this past month if you could have had a quick go on Horizon, elden ring or GT before deciding which to get first.

It's easy for Microsoft as they have a bottomless well of money to absorb losses, whereas Sony have to actually turn a profit with what they offer. Isn't the PS division one of the only areas that Sony makes any actual money these days? They don't have the safety net that Xbox relies on.

Xbox overall makes a profit…no ‘safety net’ needed yet.

£100 for streaming.... Yikes

I can only imagine how bad PS plus basic monthly games are going to get as they try to push us to pay for the better tier. I suspect we'll see Balan and Fallout 76 in May.

Wish my image sig would work

Fallout 76 is in GP and owned by MS so maybe not…

Ah, how nice of an actual Xbox representative to pop up on the forum to respond to our posts :D

Gonna need to see them receipts though boss man. If you're right then fair enough, but I thought Xbox was notorious for never actually revealing its finances because they were always in the toilet? Maybe that's changed as time has gone on, I dunno.

Google does Xbox make a profit… not that hard.

GP has 25m subs (it's probably more now). Lets discount 5m incase they done that free deal, lets also discount GPU members you end up with about 200m a month from gamepass subs....

Roughly 2.4bn a year and it's only going to increase...

I think this is where I am at with the PS subscription service:

- PS+ packages up online play with "free" monthly games, inflating the cost of playing online. This was an (unlikely) chance for that to be addressed and a consumer friendly cheaper "just pay for online" tier to be introduced. I will continue to begrudge being forced to pay for monthly games that I very rarely play just so I can occasionally play online with my friends.

- If new games aren't added to the service day 1, where is the incentive for people like me who likely buy and play the games they are interested in on or near release? I don't want to subscribe to a service offering games I already own, nor do I want to stop playing new games for 12 months to wait for them to hit the service for it to become worthwhile. As such I will perpetually be in a position of the service not being worth subscribing to. The only way for Sony to resolve this is to offer new games at launch.

- I have a digital library of PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games attached to my PSN account. Some of these games are likely to be included in the PS+ Premium tier, but it remains to be seen if I will get access to them separately by virtue of my digital ownership.

I didn't do very well. Got the name right at least 8-)

Seems a bit unexciting but good for people who haven't played the back catalogue.

I don't pay for ps+ now (haven't done for at least 2 years) and this isn't going to bring me back. I still think game pass is offering better value.

Good for newcomers but anyone who's had a long-term PS+ subscription have probably already been given the majority of PS4 games worth playing, especially with the PS+ collection.

I'm sure i saw Returnal listed as a game that will be available on the service. You probably only need a small handfull of PS5 / PS5 "enhanced" Sony titles and it becomes worthwhile when loooking at the shelf prices of these games that seemingly have depreciated at near Nintendo levels until now.

Conversely, we might see some better sale prices on some of these games outside of the service now.

Not feeling it, I’ll be more interested in buying PS1 / 2 / PSP games individually.

Even if you do Google it, it's not actually clear because Microsoft don't release definitive data on how profitable the Xbox division is. It's reported within Personal Computing which it doesn't separate out for whatever reason.

PlayStation Plus Essential

Benefits:

Provides the same benefits that PlayStation Plus members are getting today, such as:

Two monthly downloadable games

We currently get 2 PS4 games, and 1 PS5 game a month. Are they lowering this? I know it says 'the same benefits we're getting today', but I'm confused why they only say 2 games.

Before they close the loophole:

Sony have removed every way to get your hands on 12 months of PSNow in the UK in advance of this announcement. Any time you have on your sub will convert to the £100 tier. 12 months cost £50 today but they only way left to do it is to sub to PS Now and then extend your subscription in your PS5 console account settings.

I just paid up to 2026

This is Sony we're talking about. They'll probably refund you the PS Now sub. And then leak your details for good measure.
