Even if you do Google it, it's not actually clear because Microsoft don't release definitive data on how profitable the Xbox division is. It's reported within Personal Computing which it doesn't separate out for whatever reason.

The 70bn is definitely gonna be a yikes moment for them but 200m a month is not bad for now.

Thankfully this is actually in the announcement.

PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

I don't know what you mean by the 200m a month. Is that the money they're earning from Game Pass subscribers? In profitability terms, it's meaningless without knowing what it is costing them.

But Preezy is right, Microsoft have a big advantage in that they can stomach losses in the short-term to build for the long-term. Sony can't which is probably one of the reasons why they're struggling to compete in terms of value proposition.

I just paid up to 2026

I'm only subbed until 4/2025  .

Isn’t the price still essentially the same as if you had PSNow & Plus? I through they’d at least reduce it by £1 or something

Technically it’s a penny more. But with PS5, PSP, PS2 and PS1 games added, and full game trials.

So I've been waiting for this news for ages and it neither disappoints, nor pleases me. The key question is, how many PS5 games will be included and what are they?

I'm sure the confirmed Spiderman games are great and they have been on my list to purchase for ages, but is it the PS4 version of those games, or the PS5 version? All new games on release would be great, though never expected, but I at least want to play the best version of the games that I can. With PS Plus still weighted towards PS4 and PS Now still missing PS5 games entirely, I am sceptical that the '400 PS4 and PS5 games' will be anything near evenly split.

Time will tell. I imagine Sony are holding back the games list to create some hype closer to launch. I don't want thousands of games, just enough high quality games I night otherwise buy, that makes the subscription worth the money.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Apparently Returnal will be one of the PS5 games, so I think, potentially, the best outcome from this announcement is that PS5 exclusives will fall in price more rapidly.

I think the pricing is OK, not as good value as gamepass, but pretty decent.

Comparing Plus v Game Pass is pretty interesting as they each have different advantages. Obviously Game Pass has a huge hitter through getting games in the service on Day One; it's unlikely that Plus will ever match that - at least not in matching the numbers. In terms of back catalogue, though, it looks like Plus has the advantage with more games, both for last gen (PS4) and older (PS3/PS2/PS/PSP). Game Pass doesn't have that many Xbox or Xbox 360 titles in the scheme (roughly 58 Xbox 360 titles and 6 Xbox titles*). Game pass has circa 370 games in total whilst it looks like Plus will have over 800 (subject to confirmation).

Could be a bit of a battle in terms of which one is gonna prove to be more attractive.

Nope, removed from sale in January. Third party sellers have run out.

I'm quite intrigued by the premium tier.
Be nice to go back and play some old PS1/2 games.

Depends what the catalogue is like. Can't see myself subscribing for more than a few months though.

Been reading this afternoon, I would like to see an actual library of games that are coming to this service. Very vague blog post apart from the pricing. As of now I’d rather they just let me buy the games individually.

At least you will be able to download PS 1/2/PSP (not vita?) but you will have to stream the PS3 games as it’s the year 2022 & Sony still can’t unlock the true power… OF THE CELL!!1!!!1!!1!!!!

As I type I’m sat on Wikipedia, there are are over 3,800 games for the PS2 yet only 17 on PS NOW. Sound like they’ve got their work cut out a bit there.

Yeah, until I see some actual titles that make up the PS1 and PS2 library I can’t get excited about it at all. In truth even then I can’t imagine it being a massive draw for me given how many great contemporary games I have not got around to playing.
All that being said if I see a list of 100 retro titles and even 20 of them appeal to me then I will probably justify the higher tier sub. Right now it’s leaving me cold though.

Any idea what sort of work will be going into the PS1/2 classics? Will they feature Rewind/Save States etc.. features or will they be bare bones I wonder.

They haven’t said yet, but surely there must be something special about them otherwise I look forward to Sony’s excuses as to why the PS1, PS2 and PSP games that you already purchased on PlayStation 3, PSP and Vita via the PS Store (and still can) still don’t work on PS4 and PS5 despite being downloadable on this new Plus service.

I reckon it'll be either nothing done or upscaled.

Pretty sure they'll just be the same as the few PS2 games that have been emulated on PS4/5 - barebones with trophy support

Actually save states would have been a big draw. But I’m guessing no chance.

I just find it poor form, and Nintendo is guilty of this too, of making classic titles available to purchase outright on previous consoles and then arbitrarily deciding the only way you can play them on a newer machine is to subscribe to a service and temporarily loan them. Microsoft by no means has a comprehensive library, but at least I know that if I put my copy of Indiana Jones from 2003 into an Xbox Series X it’ll work and not ask me to purchase it again on their Store.

And I’m not adverse to paying for an old game again if they’ve had work done on it (Jak and Daxter on PS3 vs. the PS4 version for example - the PS3 version is better than the PS2 original) but Microsoft decided to give those type of upgrades away free of charge as well.

I bought the disc. I bought the digital copy. And you’re going to tell me neither options work and I’ve got to subscribe to something else? You’re taking me for a mug, bruv!
