Who needs anyone but Empoleon and Staraptor?

Well I’ve never used either of them and aren’t going to this time

Piplup is one of my favourite starters full stop!

Doesn’t mean I have to use him

Of course not, for me this was the last gen there wasn’t a bad choice starter wise.

That looks a little disappointing honestly. I've loved all the remakes so far. They felt more polished than 'new gen' games before them, and were real celebrations of the series. That certainly feels like it's stepping back a gen from Sword and Shield. Heck, it looks sort of like a step back from Sun and Moon in a lot of ways.

Visually I just think it needs extra polish, because it looks really flat right now. Also what disappoints me most is not the art but more so the 1 to 1 remake going as far as keeping the grid-based design for the maps. That screenshot showing the lake where you straight up see the massive jagged edges is hilarious.

A massively faithful remake is great as far as I'm concerned. What's that thing that usually gets said about remakes? It looks just like I remember the original. This seems to have been built to that exact specification. I'm liking what I'm seeing with it. I do hope there's Platinum content involved, but I really can't see it if it's meant to be faithful recreation of the original duo. Maybe the extra Platinum content could get integrated, considering Arceus is the named 'mon of the open world game.

Anyone else think the names are awful? If Diamond is brilliant, all I can think is that Pearl is not.

What’s the betting this game doesn’t include the extra Pokémon Platinum content at launch and they add it as paid DLC later? They know a lot of people want it.

Gleaming Diamond would have been a little better in my opinion, doesn’t make much difference once you’ve got it loaded up mind

Having never played the Platinum content I’d definitely buy it if they cheap out and don’t include some/all of it from the off. The Centro Pokémon leaks on Twitter have been told or noticed that a character in one of the towns in the trailer is only in the Platinum version so it’s gives a glimmer of hope.

Edit, just watched the trailer yet again and noticed it had the Porygon line in there, that wasn’t in the standard Diamond/Pearl Poké dex but was in Platinum’s......

I really hope Platinum content is included, that being confirmed would make this an instabuy for me

I’ll be getting Pearl (and a decent chance I’ll be getting Diamond as well) regardless of whether it’s standard Diamond/Pearl or Platinum, obviously Platinum content would be a much easier sell for a percentage of the people on the fence about the remakes, hopefully they let us know just what we’re getting a bit before launch.

Having watched some videos on YouTube about it I’m liking the graphical style a little bit more, still think it could have been better but it’s grown on me. The 2.5 HD from Octopath could have looked fantastic used for a Pokémon game for example.

I remember pouring time into Diamond in my third year of Uni, actually have pretty fond memories of grinding the post game to unwind / not do any work.

Unfortunately I find the Chiba style of this pretty bloody horrible so can’t imagine I’ll dive in.

Yeah, I think this is the first time I’ve looked at a Pokemon game in my lifetime and thought that it’s probably not for me. I feel a great sadness.

It seems like they've knocked this out quickly just to shut everyone up while Game Freak work on Legends. The framerate doesn't look particularly smooth either but maybe they feel it's a staple of mainline Pokemon games so they've done it deliberately.

I'll still get it though. I'll be choosing Brilliant Diamond.

HM’s are one of the few things that should never return to Pokémon, faithful remake or not. I remember my first run of Pearl (back in 2007) that I basically had 4 Pokémon I used, 2 were just there for HM use :fp: I couldn’t be bothered going to and from the PC to switch them out so this was just easier for me.

I've just realised. Wasn't gen 4 the one with the underground bases, mining and stuff? I really hope that's been left in if it is!

They’ve shown the underground in the trailer so hopefully it’ll all be intact!

gen 4 had the underground dens with the mining mini game thing and fossils to find. could make that online focused if they wanted.

when it comes to HM's, I don't care honestly, I've always been fine with HM's.

I’ve been fine with a handful of HM’s, or at least ones that make decent moves for in battle as well as helping get around. Some of them just feel like they’re there purely to hinder the players journey, I recall defog being particularly bad in gen 4 for this but could be just thinking it was a lot worse than it was.

Honestly would've thought "Shining Diamond" made a hell of a lot more sense than "Shining Pearl."

Should have been something a bit more logical. Diamond Ring and Pearl Necklace.
