Bit of a shame really, as although this isn't bad, I do wish it was in the Sword and Shield engine, the way ORAS improved on XY. I'm sure the sales figures for BDSP will outweigh any moaning from online communities.

I'd love to see a Let's Go Johto though. I have my Let's Go Living dex stored separately so they can be transferred to any future Let's Go (as the stuff from other games can't be transferred in).

Quite probable if they’re going to continue to outsource remakes to other developers so they can focus on new, mainline games rather than trying to do both side by side, as making faithful remakes is going to be easier (certainly in ILCA’s case, being a new studio to game development I believe) than reimagining them in the current generations style of Pokémon. Personally I’m not fussed what style they opt for, as it’s more mainline Pokémon games which I’m always game for

Feels like there's something weird with the controls in this game but I don't know if it's the game, the tiny joycon stick or just me. I'm constantly bumping into nothing or struggling to get into gaps which are only one tile wide. Not a massive issue but still annoying in caves and such when every step trying to get past a rock is a chance of a wild encounter. I guess it's a result of this hybrid between the 360 movement from the recent games to the 4-way directional movement from the originals.

I'd probably use the D-pad if you could use the running shoes with it. Or did I miss that instruction as well? :shifty:

I agree with you and think it's because of this. At times the game very much feels like it's still meant for whole tile movement and being off-grid thanks to the 360 stick movement puts you into odd positions - I've got stuck on corners where it looks like nothing should be blocking movement and I've accidentally jumped down ledges when it looked like I had plenty of space to move above them.

It's weird too whenever you see other characters move or when you are made to move in a cutscene/event and it's all tile-based movement.

Afaik you can't use the running shoes with the d-pad so four direction whole time movement is at a walking pace (not actually sure what happens if you're cycling, I will try it out).

I think it’s down to dodgy hit boxes and controls, probably should have kept the tile based movement really.

I swear I immediately tried this because it's how it works in every other game. But yes you're right, that does work.

I personally prefer running with stick; dpad+b feels bit odd but that's probably because I haven't used that in Pokemon in good while!

Using bike feels awkward too, in Sword/Shield it's so smooth but in this I kept hitting walls and had hard time turning. ;-; I end up just running everywhere instead and only use bike if I'm going in one direction most of time (pretty much egg hatching on that route then)

I've not got 3rd gym badge yet. I'm really happy to take my time with it and checking honey trees/berries regularly by walking back/forth, it helps that town map tells you which honey trees got wild pokemon waiting for you to interact.

The Buds and Bolts Run continues, with two hours spent figuring how to beat Gardenia of the Grass Gym. To be fair, about an hour of that was spent training a Pachirisu that I'd caught so it could be viable in the plan, and I honestly got lucky with it, as it's nature had boosted its attack stat. The same was also true of one of my Budew, so I taught it Cut (which I admittedly missed out on for quite some time as I'd never encountered Cynthia outside the place Galactic were holed up knowing that I needed to beat the Gym first). Luxio was no use, as it kept getting one-shot by Grass Knot. Until during the battle where I beat her had used Charge which upped my special defence so that I just about withstood it and could get a Leer off.

Ended things at Solaceon, where I'm confident I won't be having the same trouble against the next two Gyms as I did this one.

I’ve nicely done gym 4 and now I’m heading back to Solaceon town to help the Psyducks out, topping up my dex on route 214 and the Marsh before I get back there though. Still unsure who my last 2 members are going to be, probably going to end up as Lucario and Garchomp, might have to look when you can find Gible in the underground to get a little more use from it in the actual game. On my Diamond game I’m going to add Dialga and Giratina as my last 2 members but they’re obviously late game stuff, the other 4 will easily see me to that point though.

I'm now at point where I can challenge third gym leader, although I might have to train pokemon up a little first since they're only Lv21. I've been rotating my Pokemon, which looks like this:

Be able to switch Pokémon outside of Pokémon Center is blessing, and it helps getting around forced EXP share so gym leaders are offering enough challenge for me (I also play on "Set" ruleset). Also way of filling my Pokédex! I've not got Rosalia or Golbat yet - I might eventually put Zubat/Budew in my party, was hoping to wait until I can get Luxury Balls for boost to friendship but haven't found any on sale yet...

Been lucky with getting a Heracross so early! I need to start looking for the Honey Tree only Pokémon, believe it’s just Heracross and Burmy in these remakes though as the rest can be found in the underground.

Got the 5th gym out of the way this evening and then spent the rest of the time in the underground until now, running around looking for more Pokémon to add to my dex, my team is definitely starting to be overlevelled a little now though. Now on route to Canalave city!

Probably  It’s weird how much exp they give out just for catching Pokémon though, not like I’ve been battling everything I’ve seen down there.

I remember how cool we thought that was at first. Of course the perma exp share is the main source of the over levelling

It’s just annoying you can’t toggle it on or off, for levelling up Pokémon to evolve them for the dex it’s fantastic, likewise with getting new members of you team up to a similar level, but when you can’t turn it off (and can’t be bothered to rotate like I can’t ) then you do hit a point where you’re really over-levelled.

I completely agree. I always liked having my team even levels but it’s not possible anymore
