Yeah it’s odd how on the one hand they’re showing a fair bit but on the other, nothing really

I’m still hoping they’ve done away with HMs at the least but as you mentioned, the rock climb was still there so I’m not overly hopeful they have!

I'm not going to lose hope over the rock climb trail still being there, as hopefully it's just a case of you reach that area and it asks if you want to use whatever the ride Pokemon is for rock climbing. What worried me more was not mentioning it all. You'd think if they'd replaced them with the ride system they'd really have wanted to show that off.

I’d much prefer it if they have, for one 8 HMs is too many so if you want to have all the HMs on your active you need 2 Pokémon just for that.

I suppose I'd they do keep HMs in, then if they've implemented the "access your box anywhere" QoL then it wouldn't be too bad! When you reach a particular obstacle, you can quickly access the slave and use and abuse as you so wish! :D

Access your box anywhere trivialises completely the idea of routes imo, I don't like it. Why worry about any fight other than the current one if you can just swap your team for new pokemon.

I think HMs should be non-combat abilities that pokemon learn in sone way by default. Lets Go was pretty good actually in how it did them, but I do like the more grounded use of different pokemon with matching HMs. Like once you unlock surf, any water pokemon could just be used to surf.

You raise a good point actually, accessing your box tastes a certain level of strategy out of your journey through a route.

I like you're idea though, maybe it's tied to earning a badge? Once you've earned a certain badge any X type Pokémon can do Y ability. 8 HMs are needed to explore all of Sinnoh and there ARE 8 gyms so.... Maybe?

Let’s Go and USUM did the transition from HMs quite well in my opinion, Sword and Shield just did away with them barring fly and surf which was just fine by me! One thing I’d be wary of saying that all flying tyres can fly etc is that you still need a certain typing in your party and also, some flying types just can’t fly or able to carry someone  It wouldn’t be as bad as the field skills in XC2 though :dread:

It's not though? The permanent box access is only a recent innovation and there's something quite nice and genuinely challenging about trying to navigate a tough route using only six Pokemon. You need to set your tactics, do your research, figure out where you're going and what you need, etc. That's one thing I thought was a bit lost from Sword and Shield, if I'm honest.

Speak for yourself. I stuck to one team per play through

I ended up with an effective squad of 12 in Let's Go which I quite enjoyed. Can't remember if that had Permabox or not.

I normally find I plan my teams a little too much, even for a new gen so by the time the games actually release I’ve normally got a team of 6 for my first run. I mix it up for subsequent runs though, which will definitely involve a solo run or two as well as a monotype. In fact if I make a living dex in game I can just transfer them to home like that and constantly transfer them to whichever game I’m playing so I can have the shiny charm as soon as it’s available.

Personally I think that would be a good balance. Needing to make sure you have a water type so you can surf, for example, but not being overly restricted by having 8 move slots taken up by HMs across your party.

It’d definitely be better than HMs that’s for sure! The lack of info about this in the recent Presents does make me wonder what QOL changes have actually been made though so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we still had to juggle the 8 HMs throughout the game.

I just noticed my pre-order at TGC has turned into 'Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Dialga figurine'. Not sure I've seen anything mentioned about pre-order bonuses other than the steel book with the double pack.

So are these budget titles or full price? Full price I see.

So I presume I can buy my daughter either as she's never played the originals or is one better?

Yep, it's basically, does your daughter want the legendary monster in her game to be a bipedal set of male genitalia or not.

At first I thought you meant shall you just buy a copy of the DS games Photek :fp:

But either are fine, except a relative handful of Pokémon they’re the same game so you won’t be losing/gaining much on going for one over the other.
