Really love they are going back to the old style, hope they include Platinum features like Battle Frontier

I didn't think this looked all that great to be honest. It's nice that they've somewhat retained the graphical style, as the chunky, top-down approach was a series hallmark for over two decades, but it doesn't really look that much better than a 3DS game. The videos of Sun/Moon in HD in an emulator looked about the same. It seemed short on detail and in animations.

Also a little concerned that it's another developer with not much experience (they did Pokémon Home, which is just a storage tool). I think it's going to be a nostalgic diversion for 30 hours or so and that's it. Doesn't help that Diamond and Pearl are probably my least favourite in the series too.

Looks like they've really done this one on the cheap! I was expecting it to be at least on par with Let's Go Pikachu in terms of visuals/budget

I can't believe they've gone back to the old style. I think I'll pass on this entry. As much as I loved Sword/Shield, it's still the same game it was back on the Gameboy and that's not enough to keep me coming back.

Day 1 definitely for Pearl, probably Diamond down the line too as I did love the gen 4 games first time round.

Who needs anyone but Empoleon and Staraptor?

I’m not sold on the graphics in the over-world either to be honest, looks ok but does fall slightly flat compared to the other game announced. The style from Let’s Go games would have been much better in my opinion.

It's not so much the style, as I think Links Awakening looked great and adopted a similar approach for updating its visuals but keeping it something akin to the original.

I just think these remakes look markedly worse than that game. Like Jenuall says, I have a feeling they've done this on the cheap and given the job to an extremely untested developer.

Relatively speaking, the previous remakes always brought the generation in question up to current speed - FR/LG looked as good, if not better than Ruby and Sapphire on the GBA. Same with HG/SS looking better than the original D/P. And OR/AS looked equal to X and Y.

But this, well, like I said, I think it would look worse than Sun and Moon if you rezzed that up. And it looks worse than the decidedly average-looking Sword and Shield.i think the Let's Go games looked better and had more charm too.

Definitely looking like a handheld Switch game and not a TV Switch game.

The gen 7 games look really good if you watch an up rezzed version on YouTube, I don’t mind that they’re keeping a style similar to the original games as I thought they had a nice art style anyway, just something about it is slightly off? I don’t know what really though.

I don't mind about the art style - bring on the smaller handheld-style games that the Switch has lacked so far! I care about it looking at this point like a straight port of the worst main series entries. I mostly remember DP (behave) as the games that had a fire-type Elite Four member with two fire-type Pokémon because they only had two fully-evolved fire-types in the whole game, as well as having slightly duff music and the tedious slogging through the snow. Platinum seemed to improve on them, but it doesn't look like these will have the Platinum bits.

Colour me seriously unimpressed. Fortunately Legends looked (like it could be) belting.

I absolutely adore the new art style, I found it quite charming. Here's hoping the platinum stuff is included. The Giratina storyline was excellent and made it a more entertaining experience than D/P did first time round.

Also. Bidoof.

I never played Platinum but from the sounds of it that was a fair bit of an improvement on the original duo of them, so getting content from Platinum in here would be very welcome.

Piplup is one of my favourite starters full stop!

Piplup is just great  Gen 4 was the last time where I actually liked all of the starter Pokémon though. Past few gens have been a bit hit or miss but I’ve always liked one far more than the others.

I started with Turtwig but I have seen the error of my ways since. Piplup is probably my second favourite starter chain after Rowlet and before Torchic. I like the birds!

It's been pointed out to me that the trailer showed Porygon-Z, which I think previously couldn't be caught until the postgame in DP. Hopefully that's a good sign for the Platinum content.

Couldn't get into Platinum at all (it was the next pokemon game I got after Silver, the next I played after that was Let's Go Pikachu and then Sword). I have basically no interest in this.

How do they usually handle these remakes in terms of adding the content from the original 3rd versions? Is it something they tend to do?

I was kind of excited for this before Legends was announced, and now I'm so-so - I'm pretty hyped for Legends so I could just wait for that. If it reviews well I'll get it though as I personally still do like the 2D Pokemon formula.
