Nope. The free update brings the returning 'mon to the game, so all you need to do is trade with someone who has the DLC. Or just transfer them Home.

Wedgehurst Station. No matter whether you preorder the DLC or not.

I think this proves what I thought about the Sword/Shield controversy. They likely don't have the staff, ran out time and sacrifices had to be made. And then the PR handling of why they were excluded was completely cack handled. The reason they gave wasn't accurate and it exacerbated the whole issue.

Their management and PR completely strawberry floated it basically.

Yeah. They should have just told us the reason was to sell us the rest at a later date from the get go.

I don't think these areas were ever planned to be in the base game, nor the 'mon that are included in them. This feels like them being honest with us for once, rather than blatantly saying untrue things. All it would have took was saying, "we're doing some new things for this game, please be patient and wait for news", and the fan reaction would never have blown up as it had done. No doubt they were rushed in developing the main game, but a change such as this would have been in the planning for more than a year. They knew what they had cooking yet managed to fail in communicating that accurately to the masses.

Bought the expansion pass off ShopTo, £21.85 so a few quid cheaper just popped the code in the eShop so all set for when it releases later in the year.

I just used my gold points on it to bring it down to circa £20, not bad really. Did find that I was back on Shield last night, now got my Dex to 300 so at 75%, never normally get this high with dex completion.

It's been pointed out before but the November release date would have been set in absolute stone because of all the merchandise (and anime) that is tied to the release.

It's not like Animal Crossing where Nintendo can push it back a few months because the developers need a bit more time. Pokemon is an entire empire.

I have a lot of sympathy for the actual developers because they won't get any say in that at all.

Yeah, there was no way, once the game was unveiled at the start of 2019 and touted as a November release, that they could shift on this bar maybe a window of a few weeks. They were never going to ever be allowed to miss that Christmas period. Can you imagine them launching the game in February? Unfortunately it isn't just a game any more but a whole media franchise with various branches.

I don't really buy the faux outrage either. Either the game was getting the traditional third version (in which case people would have expecting some of the missing 'Mon to come back, and complained if it was just the same 400 again) or we were getting DLC.

Again, what is the alternative to bringing back 200 of the monsters? Not have them there and have the same mosnters as the base game but with a dozen legendaries and new forms? They get criticised for "cutting out" old monsters to resell as DLC (which I think is not an objective truth just depends your overall viewpoint) but had there been no "new" monsters in the DLC it would have been very lacking.

The third version usually brought in old monsters that were uncatchable in the original anyway. Ultra Sin andoon had that, but it also forced you into playing a game that 80% identical until the last quarter and some new post-game stuff.

This is both cheaper and a more effective approach for those who already own the game. They should package them all together and do a Special Edition for completely new player though.

The DLC seems like a very good package for what they're asking. The far worse commercial practice in my opinion, is how they still split content across two versions of the game, and get away with it because they've always done it.

If this is what they’re going to do in the future then I’m all for it, after USUM being far too similar (even for a ‘3rd’ version) to SM then getting the base game and a couple of DLC packs throughout the next year is a better option in my opinion, even more so when it does work out slightly cheaper than two full priced versions that might turn out alarmingly similar.

I was just really behind them cutting down the number of monsters to something manageable. It’s bit of a shame to see it jump up again by 200.

Thing is, I've seen version exclusives in the max raids this time, so the two versions are probably less intrusive this time around, bar the two box legendaries. I hope that the Shield pass gives you the Sword dog and vice versa. It was annoying when Ultra Sun just gave you Sun's legendary.

Exactly. Game Freak might be behind the games and the ideas that go into them, but have little in the way of room to make the best possible experience once those ideas have been passed through to other areas of the brand. Once all the brand starts on working to a set date, there's nothing that can be done to change it.

Same, was going to make a joke about it on the Twitchcast Sunday and how they said about a giant tree and was going to say Deku Tree confirmed for DLC, but I don't think I will as 1) it's gooseberry fool and b) I said it here.
