Normal or premium?
Either will do, they have the same rewards, except premium has more items and they're in a slightly different order.
If you click the Pokemon reward silhouette you can see what Pokemon encounter you can get at random
Here are the complete rewards for Pokémon Go Battle League Season 7:
The Pikachu Libre avatar items will be a reward for Trainers who reach rank 10. Trainers who reach Legend rank will earn avatar items and a pose inspired by Elesa, who made her first appearance in Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version. At rank 19, you'll receive an Elite Charged TM, and you'll also receive an Elite Fast TM as an end-of-season reward.
Rank 1: You'll be guaranteed to encounter Zebstrika, one of Elesa's partner Pokémon in the Pokémon RPGs.
Rank 1 and up: You'll be able to encounter Pokémon such as Poliwhirl, Flaaffy, Pupitar, Galvantula, and more.
Rank 10 and up: You'll be able to encounter Pokémon such as Medicham, Frillish, Stunfisk, and more.
Rank 15 and up: You'll be able to encounter Pokémon such as Scraggy, Lampent, and Rufflet. Don't forget—if you're lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Rufflet!
Rank 20: You'll be guaranteed an encounter with the current Legendary Pokémon
From rank 20 and up: You'll be able to encounter the Legendary Pokémon that is appearing in five-star raids at that time.
Ace rank and up: You'll be able to encounter Deino.
Legend rank: You'll be guaranteed to encounter a Pikachu Libre. This will be the only time you'll be able to encounter a Pikachu Libre during the season.
You'll earn more Candy XL than normal when you catch these Pokémon in GO Battle League reward encounters: Poliwhirl, Flaaffy, Pupitar, Medicham, Scraggy, Galvantula, Lampent, and Stunfisk.

Interesting to see the battle rewards! I had no idea that some of those were achievable.
What do you guys use in the battle league? I have (what I think is) a decent three of Dragonite, Kyogre and Metagross for the Master League, all 3 star, all maxed up as far as I can get them at my level (38) and with their best move sets, but still it seems out of my reach to get as far as level 20. At level 10 and progress is slow. Is it even worth trying to hit level 20 before the ranks reset in a week?
You can see what the best move sets are for each of your Pokemon and it'll help you figure out what types your weak against in the team.
Also avoid "Master League" and only do "Master League Classic" which isn't currently available. Classic has a Pokemon level cap of 40, whereas Master League you'll probably be destroyed by hardcore players who are levels 40+ and have over levelled their team towards 50.
You want to try and have different attack types for your charged attacks, there's not much point having two secondary charged attacks with the same element type. Use the above website to pick the best moves for the types you want
My teams I run with are:
Great League - low level Pokemon with low health means you want fast attacks here or ones that can increase your attack/defence or decrease your opponents.
Scrafty - out first because it has quick charge attacks (power up punch) which can use the other sides shields up. Power up punch increase your attack stat with every use even if the other side uses a shield so it constantly get more powerful. I have foul play as the secondary attack.
Lapras - with surf and Blizzard. I should probably change the Blizzard move as it takes too long to charge up in Great League
Clefairy - I tend to use this one last. It takes ages to get a charge attack and sometimes my opponent will hold back using their shields. If they still have them leftover here then Clefairy will usually beat the other pokemon with just it's regular hits
Ultra League - my weakness here is water, usually Swampert which nearly everyone uses. It can be beaten with Giratina if their Swampert is out first which it tends to be more often than not.
Giratina - out first for the quick charged attacks again
Houndoom
Mamoswine
Master League - Weakness again is water, Kyogre can tear through Mew and Mewtwo pretty easily but it's not very strong against Giratina
Giratina - out first for the quick charged attacks again
Mew - shadow claw which is good against Psychic and dragos and charged attacls ice beam and overheat moves to kill off Melmetal/Metagross/Groudon/Dragons. It's a good pick that can make it difficult for your opponent to guess which types it will use as Mew is a psychic but can have any move type. Especially when you use one type of attack and your opponent switches in something that's weak against your other attack.
Mewtwo - confusion which is quite damaging and charged attacks Psystrike and Shadow Ball. It's a good tank that I use to take hits to protect Mew as Mew tends to be better in Master League with fire and ice attacks
