Like I have a whole bunch of decent IVs and shinies in Pokemon go but I am guessing IV and levels get randomised as soon as they leave a specific game?

Read a comment on Reddit that Pokémon in Legends have IVs but the game doesn’t make use of them (guess it’s for Home reasons and future games). I believe ones from Go do get randomised when they get put into Home, like when trading in Go and everything gets rerolled on the other end.

Thanks! I am only playing Go right now so just wondered on the chance I decided to move them to a future game.

I was wrong on the IVs anyway  Nature and Abilities are random, IVs are the respective attack/defence/HP (which does speed as well in the main games by the look of it) Go stats multiplied by 2 and plus 1 when transferring into Home from Go.

Finally finished this today! Thanks Robbo! Got Arceus and am in the process of getting him transferred to my Home box as we speak.

Congrats! :toot: How does it rank out of the Pokémon games you’ve played?

I’m currently playing through this again, currently into the second area and nearing a 5 star rank. I doubt I’ll be aiming to finish every quest, mainly just going to get to the end, transfer everything from my living dex in so I can catch Arceus again.

Made a good bit of headway in the Cobalt Coastlands today, added the last members to my team (tried to use a largely different team to my first run), so it’s as follows,

Decidueye
Floatzel
Wyrdeer
Honchkrow (well when I get a dusk stone)
Ambipom
Arcanine (currently still a Growlithe though)

So Wyrdeer is the only repeating member, H-Decidueye is by far a more usable Pokémon than H-Typhlosion as well, so many Pokémon have bite or crunch and it just got wrecked constantly  Currently about to head to Firespit Island, having come straight off playing some more BDSP over the last few days this is just a massively better game.

Just saw this, sorry! I'd say it's definitely in the upper tier of Pokemon games. There are tech issues with the game, and it's very clearly been released as a kind of alpha version of what they're looking to do with the series, but the changes they made are magnificent. The core gameplay loop of catching Pokemon is incredibly addictive(the feeling when you back-attack something with an ultra ball and get a quick catch is peerless - do not no context this), and the list of Pokemon in the game is a great mix of the first four generations. Still sits behind gen 1/2, but as a marker for the future of Pokemon it's made me pretty excited!

I haven't actually gone back to this after getting a little way into the second area. The core gameplay is excellent and innovative but it really does just feel like a demo without the actual game content around it.

I do agree that while this isn’t perfect (even if it’s just for minor things) it does feel like the series is going in a very good direction if it continues down a similar path, I’m really hoping Scarlet and Violet continue what Legends Arceus started. Some of the graphics definitely are a bit suspect aren’t though

I’ll openly admit that my love for gen 1 and 2 are partly fuelled by nostalgia, although they’re both still cracking games in my opinion.

Everybody who complains about the graphics then says Gen. 1 is better than this needs to be made to watch low-res videos of Game Boy games until their eyes bleed. :capnscotty:

Gen I and II were technically impressive for the Game Boy though, Arceus is definitely not technically impressive for the Switch.

Agreed! I hope that Scarlet and Violet basically play like Arceus but with an actual Pokemon adventure.

Yeah of course Legends has better graphics than gen 1 or 2, gen 2’s graphics were charming as anything though, with the music and the colour palette they were a really nice game to spend time in. I do really like the way Legends looks for the most part though, just the odd muddy texture here and there but the problem is said texture is in your face

I quite enjoyed the story in Legends Arceus but it did feel odd not having the almost standard Pokémon adventure we’ve become accustomed to.

Legends is a good a game I’d call it the second best Pokemon game on the switch

Graphics are inconsequential

Graphics are not inconsequential but they're given far too much weight by many people IMHO.

Finished my second run of this off just now, still a tremendous game even on a second run, didn’t do all the quests or post game stuff but still caught all the legendary and Arceus after transferring my living dex in from my first run.

Do people reckon this is going to be different enough from the mainline games that if I bought it now, I wouldn't be burnt out on the franchise by the time Scarlet/Violet come around?

The trailers and hype for those games have been wanting to play some Pokémon, and I've yet to get this (I was burnt out on BDSP being mediocre and didn't fancy getting it at launch).

Could also get Pokémon Sword, having played Shield, as I do like a bit of Gen 8.

I don’t feel we really know how similar catching and battling mechanics are going to be between this and Scarlet/Violet as of yet, sure Pokémon seem to be in the overworld like in this and Sword/Shield but I don’t think they’ve shown much more off other than that. Hopefully the battling mechanics revert to the older style, I don’t mind super effective hits actually hitting a lot harder, but when the strong/agile style can lead to some individual 1v1 battles feeling quite one sided I wouldn’t miss it if it wasn’t present.

Personally I’d definitely not be burnt out playing this now and then Scarlet/Violet later in the year, but I could play Pokémon a lot of the year and probably not suffer too much burnout unless there was only BDSP to play, so I might not be best person to voice an opinion on the matter

At this point I'd definitely wait for SV. It appears as though most of Legends Arceus is going to be in SV anyway.

Balladeer wrote:Graphics are not inconsequential but they're given far too much weight by many people IMHO.

Graphics are generally inconsequential, typically the game matters most, but of course, if we're talking literally, if the graphics don't portray what's needed to be seen by the player, then of course, they're very consequential and lead to a bad experience! But they often hold a lot of weight when people talk about the technical side. To me, some of the best games are 2D/8-bit style, but I know some that won't even give them a try because they're not 3D 4K 120fps super-realistic graphics. I tend to find some of those games aren't great because all the crazy light features and motion blur effects they add just clutter up the screen and ironically aren't visually clear.

And then there are cases like Legends Arceus that are just uncomfortable to look at. There are a lot of sharp, jagged edges, particularly when in dark areas that for some reason give you this bright, white outline that's so jarring to look at. Then it has some PS2-level textures that look so out of place alongside other, better textures, and the weirdest part is they constantly zoom in on them during cutscenes.
