Hey guys,

My oldest is struggling and I said I knew who to ask for advice.
He says he thinks he's near the end sort of, battling someone called Volo at the Temple of Sinnoh.

He keeps defeating their team and then getting to a 'Mon that turns into "powerful mode" (not sure he's describing this correctly).

Basically he's into a pickle because he keeps getting pwned.
I ask if he considered GITTING GUD, and apparently he tried.

Unfortunately, my Pokémon knowledge sort of ends after Red/Blue/Fire Red/Leaf Green, and a bit of Sword/Shield.
I've told him he needs to get out in the wild and level up his team, to maybe lvl75 but he's impatient.

Whats the best tactic here?

This is correct. He gotta get good (by which I mean grind at the battle grounds in the village till his team are a high enough level). I had to grind for a couple hours before being able to beat him. Alternatively, if he hasn't already, go catch all the pokemon. That'll help with the grinding somewhat.

If he’s not utilised any of the various grit items for improving his Pokémon’s base stats that might help a little as well.

Anyone willing to let me borrow a munchlax? I don't need to keep it, I have no intention of 10 starring every entry. Also got machoke, kadabra and graveller I need trade evolving.

As soon as I post that a munchlax appeared. I still need to do some trading if anyone wants to help.

you dont need to trade evolve them. the person who you go to for trading will give an item, which can be found in space time anomalies, that will evolve them instead

Grinding for the satchels doesn’t take too long. Especially not at the rate people lose em

Or if you’re in the post game just wait hours for a space time distortion to appear

What would you be wanting to trade anyway?

Looking at the pokedex, I've got everything which can only be gotten from the distortions.

The below I'm missing and would require grinding:

Alpha or big buizel- Would need to keep.
Golem- Would trade over my graveller.
Steelix
Machamp-Would trade over a machoke.
Magby- The little bastard is refusing to spawn.
Magmortar
Weavile

I’ve got a full dex (although I lost the motivation quite early on to get max rank for everything) so don’t need anything. I reckon catching a Golem, Steelix, Machamp would be easy as they’re all repeatable encounters in later areas. Magmortar is a very rare spawn in distortions, but could see if I can find any Magby for you. Weavile is the one of the 2 Pokémon I actually needed to trade any points for the respective evolution item, although it’s available in distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands too.

Edit, thought I’d actually done all the quests bar the path of solitude ones but just noticed another battle with Irida has appeared so I’m doing that for now

Wild alpha machamp get! I do like finding evolved forms out in the wilderness.

Haven’t you come across Golem and Steelix in the wild yet?

I found a wild steelix in a distortion once which I accidentally killed. Just caught a magby and golem.

Wild alpha steelix found! This is going very well, think I'd only have to grind satchels for either weavile or magmortar if I don't get lucky in a distortion.
