If the games good enough I won't care that much about the frame rate. BotW is choppy as strawberry float a lot of the time but that didn't stop it being great

Open world Pokemon is my childhood dream and very keen to see what they're capable of doing this the breaks off.

Clearly GameFreak don't have high production/polishing standards, so I feel pretty dang certain they'll hit that early 2022 deadline no matter what. As discussed repeatedly with Sword/Shield, they know they can get away with it.

It reminds me of an episode of The Final Bosman - Kyle mentioned that the shallow developer logic at the likes of Ubisoft etc. is often that the cost of pushing a 6/10 game to an 8/10 game on Metacritic is simply not worth the extra return on investment. That has never been truer than with Game Freak. They want to spend the minimum of amount of time and money needed to create a functional product that meets their contractual needs and sells well.

Have Pokémon games ever been delayed? Aren't their releases pretty much set in stone because of the anime and TCG etc all needing to be organised and ready to go at once?

Generally remakes haven't correlated with the anime, though they do correlate with the TCG, which has a little more deadline flexibility.

I realise Legends Arceus isn't a remake, but given it is set in the past, the core anime is probably unaffected.

Games that start a new generation cannot be delayed, for the obvious reasons that everything else is tied to that release. Other games... I think it's more that they choose not to. Considering neither of these two are tied to that sort of marketing (unless there's going to be a heavy Sinnoh focus come the end of the year) they could theoretically delay them. But the chance of that actually happening is slim.

Considering a lot of the core anime focuses on Ash, any anime surrounding this would be brand new so could also be pushed back slightly if the worst happened and this was delayed? Obviously knowing how they like to run to a tight schedule with everything it’ll probably come out when they have it pencilled in for whether it’s 100% ready or not, with how promising this looks from the very small amount we’ve seen I’d be perfectly happy if it was delayed till late 2022, plus I think BoTW 2 will launch in the first half of 2022 so they’d compliment each other nicely in this regard.

With the characters in this already just looking like Dawn and the other guy(?), I wouldn't be surprised if the anime follows a near identical ancestor of Ash.

Or Ash just gets sent back in time by Dialga, it's anime.

Or Ash is actually from that time period, all the current anime is just one massive dream Ash can’t wake up from.

There's a lot of potential here, but it's still early days as the game looks a bit ropey.

Gamefreak recently moved into Nintendo offices so I wonder if that means they get extra assistance on projects? It could be they are sharing resources which might be why Gamefreak have finally tried something new with the Pokemon formula.

In terms of the game running well, I assume with this, BOTW 2 and Splatoon 3 all coming next year, maybe they are all targeting Switch Pro specs? They will obviously run on OG Switch but not quite as smooth.

No way have you watched that trailer and thought it's evidence a Switch Pro is coming. I'm not having that.

Not a fan but watched the whole presentation - it was great. Pokemon fans have to be happy with that, production was really good - seemed like a lot of hard work went into putting together the opening with all the clips, it was very cool. Then we was given a decent amount of info about PokeSnap, that game does look interesting plus remasters of Diamond / Pearl.

Legends looks very cool and kind like what the fans have wanted for 20 odd years. A full-fat open world botw-esq action rpg. Frame rate drops aside the wild open landscape does look very pretty and fun to run-around in. I hope it works out.

I’m still just not sold on the Switch Pro rumours, the Switch is almost 4 years old now so surely it’d be better just to release a full replacement for it in 2023 (for example) rather than a mid gen upgrade in 2022, potentially so close to their minimum target of 7 years. The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X had 4 and 3 years respectively before their new consoles launched late last year, each coming out 3 and 4 years after the base version of the PS4 and Xbox One. Just seems like the longer they leave it the less likely a mid gen refresh is and whatever they had planned for a mid gen refresh will just get rolled into the Switch 2? Saying that, if this came out bundled with the Switch Pro I’d probably be there day 1 for it :fp:

The opening montage really got me in the feels!

It’s definitely what a lot of fans have been after for a while, let’s hope it lives up to the high (sometimes far too high) expectations we’ll have for it as we near its launch next year.

Wow, I know they said early 2022 or whatever but that's surprising that its coming less than two months after DP remakes.

Er. Hm. That's awfully soon considering how it looked in the only glimpse of it we've seen.

They've got to be gearing up for another showcase if they're revealing the dates and box art, right? Or is this all we're getting until E3?

That does seem very early considering how it looked, I was also expecting them to get the BDSP remakes released before giving an actual date for Legends. Still though, good start to the year if it releases then!
