I’m hoping/assuming that an English version of that trailer will be out in the near future. It does look a little better graphically than when we last saw it to.

No English language vids yet, Robbo... but there are some new Japanese language vids showing the environments, game mechanics and the trainers.

Balla, don't look at them! I haven't actually watched them, either... it's good to be surprised when playing a new game :-).

They look great! I’m happy watching officially released stuff, but definitely won’t be going looking for leaks :capnscotty:

Against my better judgement, I've placed a pre-order for this. I have no faith that it is going to be anything other than a 6/10 game with a trite plot and a lifeless empty world, but I just really want to capture a Hisuian Growlithe :x :fp:

Hisuian Growlithe does look fantastic, unless I want two fire types on my team I’m already planning on starting with Cyndaquil though.

One thing I have wondered though, is if the 3 starter Pokémon will form part of the Dex we’re creating or not, logically as they’re not regional and have been brought in from other regions they shouldn’t but I guess they will be, meaning you’ll need to trade for the others, although I think we’re yet to see how trading works in Legends Arceus.

Very much a Pokemon Snap/Monster Hunter game isn't it, 2 things I would have liked to have seen is

1.) Multiplayer - Ability to team up with other trainers to tackle stronger, frenzied Pokemon would have been a good idea.
2.) Post game - I'm not sensing this will have much of one? maybe just the ability to replay battles against some of the frenzied Pokemon?

I still come away feeling like this isn't as fully fleshed out as I wold have liked and more a test bed for what's to come. I'll see how the reviews and opinions fair but right now this still doesn't look like a definite purchase for me.

It all seems very small scale and very bare to me. Hopefully they are holding loads back, but I worry the game will just hold back a ton of Pokémon for a paid expansion.

It's not fair to compare every game to BOTW but it's open world (ish) it's on switch and it's got big green fields so comparisons will be made.

Same, it looks like the gameplay loop is get a request/mission to catch a type of Pokemon > Visit area and catch Pokemon > Bring it back and get the next mission to catch another Pokemon...... rinse and repeat, I was hoping for more tbh

Looks like the press got to watch this trailer a little while before we did, they seem to be positive?

BOTW is too big. It's one of the few Zelda games I abandoned long before I got to the end.

I actually quite like the look of this! It certainly appeals to me more than either the mainline Pokémon games or other spin-offs like Snap.

Can see my kids really getting into it

I've pre-ordered it on Shopto. Despite having multiple Pokemon games on my To Do list already.

From 44s you can clearly see the pop-in distance for various features - first the trees in the distance, then at 50s you can clearly see the bidoof pop-in. At 1:05 an NPC appears. You can see the shadows under trees and the grass appearing too.

It's... really not great unfortunately :(

Go to 1:59 and look at the rock appear in the top left of the screen...

It looks like a game that plays very much in the foreground. That doesn't seem to marry well with the promise of big open areas to explore if you can't really see where you're exploring until its right in front of you. Compare to BOTW and Monster Hunter Rise where you can see things at a great distance.

I like the survey concept, and things like throwing berries as a distraction to get an easier catch - it does seem a bit pokemon snap which is great. The pokeball redesign is cool too.

Jubilife still looks very static and underwhelming as a central location. The buildings look too cookie cutter and no one is moving around. It's made worse by NPCs all just standing still outside their respective buildings - even if they were doing different idle animations that would help a lot while still being static, like if the vendors at the shops were doing something not just standing to attention. There's a kid sitting down - that's a bit better! But in the background I also see a guy who is supposed to be a labourer I guess, with a piece of lumber over his shoulder, but he is just stood there. Even if he was just walking back and forth but not going anywhere it would give the illusion of him doing work - like the carpenters in Ocarina of Time.

I like how the battles work in place in the world while still being near-classic Pokemon battles. I also like the look of the noble pokemon gimmick!

Yeah, technically its not great, considering not much is going on as well. Game Freak moved into Nintendo's offices late 2020 so hopefully they will be able to help them out tech wise going forward as its never been a strong point for GF

Regrettably I will be giving this a miss.

Back when I was in school my friends and I always dreamt of an open 3D world version where you would traverse the land and various cities to capture your own Pokémon.

I feel like this is a missed opportunity.

I think it could be better, from the side missions the gameplay looks fairly repetitive of catching a Pokémon to show someone, hopefully the main quests will be a bit meatier in this regard.

The graphics are very much a mixed bag, in some parts they look fairly decent with the art style and other times they (sadly) really don’t :(

Still think it looks like I’ll spend a lot of time playing it though, this is the direction people have wanted the series to go in for so long and hopefully it’ll pay off in the long run.

This does have some neat ideas that I would like to see brought into the next mainline games, the way the battles work and how seamless they appear to be for one.
