Actually if you look at the usual gaps between generational releases, then November 2022 would be when Gen 9 will come out. We had Black/White in 2010 (In Japan), X/Y in 2013, Sun/Moon in 2016 and Sword/Shield in 2019.

It does seem too early for a new gen, and I'm surprised Arceus wasn't the big Pokémon release near Christmas last year. Hope it's not chronically undercooked, and the new gen games also need to be a step forward after parts of Sword and Shield felt quite dated.

I mean the look we got at it was what, 3/4 months ago? And there are still nearly 8 months to go until release - there's plenty of time to polish things up!

What we saw probably would have been a couple of months old (I guess?) too? Plenty of time to polish it up though, if this is the first gen 9 game then surely it’d have made sense to give it until October/November 2022 to give it as much time as possible. With the varying styles of Pokémon games we’ll have had since Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee in 2018 the lines do seem to be a little blurrier than they used to be for defining a new generation of Pokémon games.

Well it's definitely looking a lot better. Pokemon actually attack you in the overworld? Yes please. Where was that in the wild area?

They're actually shaking up the battle system a bit! Not a lot, but with Pokémon, any little progress is welcomed.

New monsters look good. Stantler has deserved an evolution for a while.

This looks amazing, really does look like a huge step for the series.

I was not expecting regional evolutions either, they confirmed support for Home too.

now this is an interesting take on the formula, and more regional forms? YES!

not sure about the crafting though

Gameplay wise it's the direction I want them to take the game in but from a purely visual/technical standpoint it's one of the ugliest games I think Nintendo have ever unveiled.

Awful low-poly trees, horrendous blurry texture work, bland looking vistas. Why does this game look so bad compared to BOTW which was a damn launch title? It certainly doesn't appear to be doing anything beyond what that game did. If I were Nintendo I'd be having a word with Game Freak. Or maybe not, because it's Pokémon so it'll sell gangbusters regardless of how much effort they put in, so why bother.

Given it's now less than six months from release I'm not hopeful of it looking much better.

Yeah the graphics don’t really match the ambitious (for Pokémon) gameplay but I still think they’re fine? I don’t see them changing loads from now to release but little things could be changed I guess.

I'm really digging the direction they're going with this. Going back to roots with collecting mon with a bigger focus on the Pokedex sounds fun.

Something I’m still not sure of, what is the actual gameplay loop of this game? Like, will it have overworld dungeons and hidden areas, it’s not all just going to be ‘Go here, observe this Pokemon, fight it, come back and tick off that activity’ surely not?

This looks good, could be my first Pokemon game if it reviews well!
