That is just their English names.

Still though, would be kind of neat even if it doesn’t work in every region

It's their Spanish and Italian names, too.

Well point is it’s not their Japanese names

If the cat stays on four legs I'm picking that one.

In before all of them. :dread:

I'm deffo going for fire-type starter. I'm normally water-type picker but:

1) It's croc
2) It looks like Mario enemy
3) It's adorable

I love my croc/gators.

I see more bitching about Gamefreak and the graphics but none towards Nintendo, the publisher, who has them shitting out new games every year.

Maybe if they gave them 4-5 years between new gens like other big Nintendo IPs get they'd look a lot better.

I don't think it's Nintendo, but rather Pokémon Company. I'm not 100% sure on that.

But yeah, I think they need more time between generations -- although Pokémon is one of most successful franchise, it makes them lot of money so they could afford to hire lot of people and get help to improve them. (But I'd still argue they need more time too.)

I'm still excited about the game, but I do wish they'd at least hold off releasing it till next year and work on it this & next year.

The Pokemon company is basically 2/3rds Nintendo though

Edit: actually I thought Nintendo owned Creatures but it looks like it's just a 10% stake.

Still, Nintendo have a big say in this and my point was its just Gamefreak who get the stick.

I think it’s more TPC’s fault they get pumped out so often rather than Nintendo themselves. Although I’m sure Nintendo don’t mind a regular 20m selling game coming out exclusively on Switch and a fair rate.

On the graphics though, they look fine? Yes they are not blowing anyone away but if you put screens of Sc/Vi alongside screens of PLA and Sw/Sh you can see a steady improvement. Again, it’s not going to win any awards for it looks but when you are playing on a small screen you won’t notice much anyway.

Also when I do wish graphics could be better, but it's only because it does add much more to exploration sense. They still look improved compared to last games and I'm still going to find something pretty to look at anyway.

There'll still be people going on about Tree™ though.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they all ended up part fighting in one generation

I do like all of the starters at this stage though, been a while since that’s been the case for me.

Wow, was not expecting this so soon. Glad I held off Arceus now. I think those are the best looking starters for ages. Though is the grass cat not just Litten. Quaxley is clearly the clutch choice, though I’m usually not a fan of water types.

Glad it’s open world too, hopefully it’s borrowing a lot from Arceus, think I might be day one for this.

Watching the whole direct thing, I had no idea there were so many different active Pokemon games.

I probably said this in previous gens, but Sw/Sh's starters were dreadful. I understand a certain amount of anthropomorphises but the three starters ending up as a drummer, a football player and strawberry floating James Bond was a bit too far. I've always considered myself a fire-type guy but there's been precious few half decent ones, and I'll be honest most of the starters have been bollocks for gens.

Fennekin was a particular disappointment, as the first form was awesome but the later forms were gooseberry fool (luckily saved by Froakie being one of the best starter lines of the whole franchise).

Starter wise-

Gen 1 - All solid (Genwunner 4 lyfe)
Gen 2 - Meh
Gen 3 - I guess Blaziken wasn't dreadful?
Gen 4 - Imagine picking Turtwig
Gen 5 - Ugh
Gen 6 - Froakie or bust
Gen 7 - Literally the first gen I abandoned my starter
Gen 8 - The drummer was the least anthropomorphised. The drummer. The strawberry floating drummer.

Duck > Croc > Cat

*starter final evolutions

I don't like Cinderace at all but Scorbunny/Raboot is possibly my favourite first/middle pair.

I've never been too picky with my starters element. I've used these ones in the past. I've only just noticed that I've only used a water starter mon once before!

Gen 1: Bulbasaur
Gen 2: Cyndaquil
Gen 3: Torchic
Gen 4: Chimchar
Gen 5: Oshawott
Gen 6: Chespin
Gen 7: Rowlett
Gen 8: Grookey

Gen 9 will be Quaxley. I know Ella will probably go with one of the others. I'm getting too ahead of myself though, I still have to fully complete Arceus and Brilliant Diamond

Anyway this game is Too Soon, I haven't got Arceus yet. Just spend some time actually making these games technically good and not mechanically compromised for their release date!

I am pretty rigid for mine:

Gen 1: Charmanger
Gen 2: Cyndaquil
Gen 3: Torchic
Gen 4: Chimchar
Gen 5: Tepig
Gen 6: Fennekin
Gen 7: Litten
Gen 8: Scorbunny

Of those eight, the only ones that aren't really top tier are Tepig and Scorbunny for me. I didn't really like Cinderace being a footballing rabbit thing, but it didn't help the poor thing that I had Charizard, Blaziken and Incineroar alongside it showing up the design.

EDIT: Emboar was the third consecutive fire/fighting starter as well, which is just unimaginative. Delphox was a breath of fresh air, and possibly even my favourite alongside Charizard.
