Interesting about the harder bosses. I wonder if there's anything Cynthia level.
BDSP Cynthia was great, those remakes didn't do much right nor wrong (far too honest as a remake) but the Gym Leaders and Cynthia were really good as long as you didn't massively over level your party, even with a party of level 68 ish (thinks that what mine was, or around that anyway) Cynthia was still a challenge.

This is the kind of thing that Pokemon needs as a hard mode. Turn off Exp share, IV/EV trained trainers all over, the only thing they might need to add extra is a function for the player to at least EV train their Pokemon from a very early stage, going up against a trained team with untrained stuff isn't ideal, but would add an extra level to the difficulty as well. Or as a stop gap, they could give the player all the training items from the off, with a selection of Pokemon on route 1 to cover all the 6 stats.
