Are all the Alolan forms in these games just available from Kanto for Alolan trades in Pokemon Centres?

That is how I have acquired all mine. Like all gifted Pokemon in this game, they come with optimised stats. The best Magikarp you can get in the game will be the one you can buy for $500 early on.

Not sure if this is a common complaint, but playing with 1 joy con is gooseberry fool. I don't mind doing it in Mario Party, but for this its just horrible.

I doubt I will play it docked again

Anyone think Nintendo are getting a free pass on Mew only being available with the Pokeball? Maybe it will be available by other means in the future, but for a £40 game I think all the content should be available in the base game. I'm not a fan of splitting Pokémon across both versions either. I know they'd say they're encouraging trading but that can be achieved by just making some Pokémon really hard to catch in each version. They get away with it because it's what they've always done it but I don't think it's great from a consumer perspective.

If you have no friends to trade with ( :( ) can't you get all the missing Pokemon from the free Pokemon Go?

I'm sure a review mentioned Go basically made that redundent.

They are a little, should be available by some other methods in game alongside the one in the Poké ball plus, I actually thought they would have thrown a lovely Easter egg in there and once Mewtwo had been caught it'd cut to Vermilion and show the truck shaking.

Not had chance to load this up for the past couple of days, might try to get an hour or two in this evening.

I’m sure I read that they don’t let you trade mew in from go. I think everything else is fair game though.

They do this so every game is 'unique', so you have a 'reason to come back to them'.

Game Freak went to gooseberry fool years ago.

I've been ridiculously snowed under with work recently, but I'm glad to say I made a little time to play some Let's Go, Eevee! on the launch weekend. I'm up to the Game Corner Basement and it's really fantastic. I'm completely sold on all the changes. The catching minigame is fun; rebalancing progression around a mix of catching and battling is a clever way to add variety to the core gameplay; the changes in how IVs & EVs are presented & integrated (the judge tool, catch chains, candies) has for me made them feel like a fun part of the game for the first time. And the aesthetic is perfect! I love the sheer cuteness of seeing your favourite party members waddle around, and the remastered soundtrack, and most of all the campy, over-the-top nostalgia moments.

I'm usually happy to dump my starter as soon as a better Pokemon comes along, but I'm actually really attached to Eevee. I dressed her up in a little hat & glasses and she looks fabulous. The game seems pretty easy (I guess that's my one "complaint", but I don't really mind!) and the unique partner moves are really good, so I think I'll try to take her into the Elite Four when I eventually get there.

Current core team is Eevee, Alolan Ninetales, and Arcanine. I also have a decent Alolan Raichu, and I'm considering levelling up the ¥500 Magikarp to get that sick Gyarados. Later on I'd like to use at least Articuno - it's always been my favourite legendary - and hopefully get a Dragonite with decent stats.

[P.S. Been a while since I last posted -- hope all's well with everyone!]

Glad you're enjoying it! I too am sold on the new mechanics now after being quite unsure at first. I see this game as a testing ground for the new mechanics for Gen 8 next year. A bit more tweeking, refinement and balancing on the catch mechanic and I think it really could be great.

---

So anyway I've completed the elite four, become champ, caught Mewtwo (which was a genuine challenge). I had trained my team hard through the game so I was taking in a team of mid lvl 70s into the elite four where they had teams between lvl 50s to 60. Blew them all away and figured would do the same to Mewtwo. I was wrong. Here's a tip, don't go in unprepared. Otherwise he will make your life hell.

Anyway my team is Eevee, Kantonian Ninetales, Alolan Ninetales, Nidoking, Blastoise, Venusaur.

Going to focus on training my team in Cerulean caves for a bit then go and rebattle the gym leaders.

To be fair, Pokémon have always stuck event/legendary monsters behind walls - you used to literally have to go to events to get them, then they stuck Jirachi with Pokémon Box on the GC, the GBA generation required Colosseum and XD for Ho-oh and Lugia, you got Victini if you bought Black and White at launch I think, Cerebii with the VC version of Gold/Silver etc. The plus side is that these are now never your only way of getting them though whether they'll do a Mew event in the future, I can't say.

One version of Pokémon has never had all the monsters in it. We probably have come to accept it but it did originally stem at least from wanting to get people trading and for making rare event Pokemon like Mew a... rare event. They have obviously started sticking them in as incentives for pre-ordered and what not now though.

I already have a couple of Mews in my handheld games (though I think none were actually mine; all were traded). I must admit, I was tempted to get the Pokeball just for that, especially as it works out as only £65 here in yen. But then I realised it would probably be used a few times then stuck in the cupboard with the Pokewalker which I barely used. I don't play Go that much at all anymore anyway, and never played it that intensively (prefering collecting over battling).

Anyway, I started this today and have had a massive nostalgia rush. The opening left me with a smile on my face. It's really aesthetically pleasing and a great update to the RBY generation.

Actually, the currently cycle normally has a game a year (I think UM/US were last year?). Normally we get a core game, a remake and then the sequel/update to the core game.

They have already done remarks of Gen 2 and 3 but seeing as Gen 2's remake was almost ten years ago and now on old technology (the original DS), I wouldn't mind if a "Let's Go" update replaced the next round. So we would have Gen 8 next year and then maybe Let's Go Gold and Silver the next. Would be a great way of expanding this offset but keeping the main games. Pokémon Go is slow to add new generations too, though you won't ever get to the point where you surpass that game in the amount o Pokémon added. So it makes sense for Go and Let's Go to be rooted in older generations for the time being.

Let's Go Togepi and... Snubbull maybe?

Nintendo you have my number.

EDIT - Pichu! How did I forget bloody Pichu. And all those bloody baby Pokémon.

It's great to see you back in GR, Karl, and it's cool that you're enjoying Lets Go!

Seven wrote:I and Doeragynn are planning to pick our copies up tomorrow (well later today), looking forward to it!

It's a good game, Seven. I wondered if the mechanisms - whilst ideal for newcomers to the series such as myself - would be a wee bit too simple for more seasoned players but, having seen Pedz playing last night and read Doom Spoon's viewpoint, it feels as if you guys will find some cool / challenging aspects, too.

So I'm still reasonably early on in the game (Just beaten Misty and met Bill) but my thoughts so far are a mostly positive.

For the most part I'm really enjoying it. It looks great and the battling and general presentation of it is wonderful. Love seeing them running around the overworld and being able to target specific ones, while avoiding others is great.

Apart from Misty I've not had a single challenging fight so far and even then it was only her Starmie that got a few lucky shots in. I do get the impression that ramps up a bit going forward though.

I'm not sold on the capture mechanics at all. I'm finding it boring and not fun. Essentially seems to boil down to spamming Berries and Pokéballs until something decides to stay and it's not very transparent why. I'm hoping this is taken out for the next core game.

So yeah, mostly great but for me it's let down by the changed capturing mechanics. I can understand why it is the way it is, but I'm not a fan to be honest.
