Coventry and Birmingham are basically the same place. Bradford is way up north and lots of you are way down south. Birmingham has a great casino and so does Coventry. I cannot say loads of people could come and stay here though. Aaron owns the house and I just rent, it's also two bedroom so it would be a squeeze if lots of people came. I could reasonably see 3 people other than Aaron and I in the house, also works for one car them. Sykes can just do a day trip from Brum tbh. Xmas hols IMO. Get this gooseberry fool rolling.

Well firstly, are we just going to the casino to play a few tournaments, or will we just be playing some home games? Guess it depends what everyone would favour and what our parameters are; personally I'd prefer we raged a casino.

December is a good shout considering all the education noobs will be off and those of us who work have plenty of time to book the necessary leave. Would also need to sort out accommodation and stuff, and if people can feasibly afford it (ironic in a poker thread, I suppose). Pretty sure I would have no problem whatsoever making it.

I'm up for a meet-up in theory but practically it's a bit of a pain getting anywhere at the moment. I got rid of my car when I started uni last year and I'm not a big fan of the trains. Also it looks like uni don't want me back until next year so I'm going to have to find a job in the meantime. I'm living in Bristol but during Xmas/Easter/Summer I go back to Surrey for a couple of weeks.

Basically I don't want to commit to anything yet as I've no idea what I'm going to be doing for the next year.

I can't seem to do consistently well.

I yo-yo up and down like a mother strawberry floater. I think if I lose a few hands early I get annoyed and bet too aggressively to make it back so end up blowing my stack in frustration. I will occasionally though get a run of good hands and make a tidy profit quickly, it's just frustrating seeing that slip through my fingers again

I need some basic tips to follow as despite having played the game a fair amount I don't seem to learn or get any better :fp:

Last week I won a satellite into the $109 WCOOP ($1M guaranteed) which starts today at 5:45pm.

I'm sure the majority of players will be much more skilled than I'm used to playing against so I'm not expecting much, but with over 10,000 players and at least 1500 places paid there's always a chance I could get something. Maybe I've had my fair share of tournament cashes for this month already though

There's lots of links in the first post that are very helpful and worth reading. Personally I always seem to run bad in cash games so I like to mostly stick to the tournaments. Maybe give those a try if you haven't already?

Herbi, the most general tip I can give you without seeing you play much is simply to play only good hands for now and pay attention to how the other players are playing.

No no, you have to win for that to happen.

As much as I am super strawberry floating jealous of your big cashes and ability in tournaments I will rail this gooseberry fool and obv hope you ship. yeah standard going to be waaaaaaaay higher but clearly are you massively +EV in a $10 field so no reason why you cannot cash. Just run good. :)

satriales wrote:Personally I always seem to run bad in cash games so I like to mostly stick to the tournaments. Maybe give those a try if you haven't already?

 What you need to do is win some tourneys them play HU cash with me. I don't think you run bad at cash, you just don't play enough hands. You're clearly going to be a good cash game player if you put your mind to it.

Herbi like sykes said. Keep it simple. Bet when you have a good hand, fold when you don't. It might seem obvious but at low stakes trying to bluff someone, especially at limit hold em just doesn't work. They call along with anything which is why you can turn a good profit on your made hands. If you want anyone to watch you play for a bit let us know when you are playing and I am sure we can spot a few things to try changing etc.

Also like satriales said, cash games are probably not the easiest place to start. Most people seem to latch onto sit and go tables. The level of play is SO low it's amazing. Maybe give some $1 Sng games a bash?

I've had to withdraw my roll from WH for real life money sadly. Student finance people are retarded and don't understand my course starts in 2 weeks so I have lack of money and car insurance etc coming out all over the place atm. Once I get my 9k bursary though lol, we will be back in business. Until then I have a spectacular $13 in jokerstars. I am going to turn this into $10k within a week playing heads up sng games. I give you 1/5 billion to bet against it happening.

EDIT: Gaz can you camtasia your tourney? :3

Yeah I read that Expected Value thing in the first post, though it does seem a little complicated way to say PLAY GOOD HANDS.

I would read those tips things but they're not very easy to understand for me.

Well if you stick with them, they become simple enough eventually. To play poker with a real edge takes a little learning, but it's worth it if you want to win :)

I'll give it a go, but I'll also have pokertracker, pokeraceHUD, MSN, Firefox, and Pokerstars open so if my laptop starts to slow down then camtasia will have to be the first thing I close. I'm not going to bother trying to commentate though as it didn't work last time and I haven't bothered to figure out why yet.

Herbi wrote:I would read those tips things but they're not very easy to understand for me.

It's best to focus on improving one thing at a time. I don't play limit holdem so can't really give much advice but this list of starting hands should help you reduce the number of hands you play. It may be boring to fold so often but it's much more profitable.
http://pokereagles.net/poker-strategy/holdem-starting-hand.php

Once you learn a few other skills then you can mix up your starting hands a bit more but to start with it's best to just stick with the premium hands.
