Sounds to me like Karl assumed her gender based solely on his perceptions of what a "lady" looks like

I have noticed with that meowth through the mystery gift, it will keep finding items every now and again. snagged a few things from it now. keeping it in my team until I need to swap it.

I'm going to try to stick to new Mon or Galar versions of the old Mon. Seems kinda pointless going through the game with a team you've used or are familiar with, imo.

   That is so sad.

When people complain about the lack of a national dex in the game is it because they want 1000 Pokemon catchable in this game?

Because if so, I could not disagree more. Catching a Pokemon I think should feel special, at least that how it seems to me. I remember the discovery moment when I new creature popped out in front of you, wondering how rare it was, what it’s moves were, type etc. Even just the instant moment of it always felt like a little kick of dopamine to me (alright it would get tedious seeing the same gooseberry fool over and over in caves). In this though I think it’s lost a bit of that because they’re all over the place just running about and there’s so many that each one loses a bit of the special appeal. I think I’ve caught over 40 already. Seems like in older games before the first gym I’d be at around a dozen max. I’ve been surprised how consistently good the designs are but nevertheless being introduced to so many new ones so quickly has led to a distinct lack of excitement each time I see something new.

Watching some videos this evening and my biggest complaint isn't the lack of Pokémon, or animations, it's the fact that a game series as long running and popular as this still doesn't have voice acting.

The technology is there. It has been for years and years and years. Would it hurt to add voice acting to give the game a bit of depth.

All the scrolling text and "ping" noise from pressing the button to load the next paragraph makes me feel like I'm still playing that Ganguro Girl dating flash game on Newgrounds...

Did you explain that you're a gamer guy who doesn't need her to femsplain things to you?

It's a variety of issues, but mainly it's because it's in combination with Game Freak's reasoning.

They said that they were cutting Pokémon in order to improve the models and animations of the returning pokemon. Kind of like Monster Hunter World.

If this was the case, while there would still be people complaining, it wouldn't be too bad.

However, animations appear to be reused with no updates. Models appear to be reused with no updates. The reason Sun and Moon ran like a cripple was because the models were made higher quality than the 3DS could handle effectively so they were future proofed. So the work was already done.

But Game Freak are the most inefficient company I've seen when it comes to this: faces use completely different models rather than just swapping out textures. Dynamaxing shows the time left using the number of clouds. Wanna guess how they do this? By swapping out 3 different models per Dynamax pokemon. Not just focusing on the clouds.

So tl;dr there's more to it than "I want Scizor"

Is the pop ups really bad in this as some reviews are saying?

Nope, I noticed at the start because it was on my mind but I’ve completely forgotten about it now. It wouldn’t be hard to find instances of it happening but it’s not an issue.

Hmm. My girlfriend wants this and it’s her first Pokemon experience so I’ll just tell her to go ahead. Hopefully she’ll put it down sometime so I can have a go.

Sunk about 5 hours in so far. Broadly enjoying and engaged by the charm, but I think the pop ins and framerate choppiness is pretty dire tbh.

The lack of voice acting is a real loss, and the woodenness of the models is a real anachronism.

Have found all the new Pokemon delightful, but as with the last few generations, every location feels very linear, barren and narrow.

What I've seen of the wild area is enough to whet the appetite for what the series really should be. Hope it expands out significantly past the opening.

50 Pokemon before the first gym. I can’t believe people want more.

Won my first link battle, was a great back and forth fight too.

Just got to the wild area, going to explore a bit before heading to the next city. Bloody loving it so far, team consists of Grookey, Rookiedee and Skwovet and the dynamax Pikachu. See what additions I can find in the wild area, I’m hoping a lot!

Anyone else unable to see if their friends are online while playing? Went to check earlier and it said can’t access because the game is using network features or something along those lines.

I found the popping and how the framerate can literally freeze up the game briefly pretty shocking tbh. It's still fun to play though. I only played it for around 7 hours, though.
