From the couple of previews I’ve read/watched it does indeed sound more of the same (which as I said in the Switch thread, for myself isn’t a bad thing) but the wild area does add something new to the game, whether they’ll keep expanding on the wild area till every route is like that who can say.

For me, my thoughts on the game have shifted from "no" to "maybe"!

Jawa, might you be able to share some of the articles that you've read please? :)

So the Eurogamer article has me looking forward to this a little more than I was yesterday.
It does appear to be one of the bigger advances in the series mechanics and gameplay for a while, which is good, especially with the Wild Area seemingly bigger than I thought.

I do still wish that Game Freak would do something more ambitious though.

I want all three to be revealed to avoid another Fennekin situation where the starter is the obvious choice and the final form is strawberry floatin gooseberry fool.

So for someone who’s been out of Pokemon since Diamond/Pearl, how familiar is this going to feel?

Outside of new regional Pokémon and the new battle mechanic/gimmick in the form of dynamax the games will probably feel pretty familiar if you’re coming in straight from gen 4. Obviously with the wild area it’ll make finding Pokémon a little different but once you go to battle them it’ll be business as usual.

Whether being so similar is a good or bad thing is up to you.

Make one of your Pokémon huge for 3 turns, can participate in raid battles against dynamax Pokémon in the wild area with online players as well. Far from their best gimmick they’ve added in the last couple of gens.

I played the demo at the Pokemon Center and really enjoyed it. Plays just like the old games but in proper 3D.
I also pre-ordered Sword there and for doing it instore they give u a set of four Pokemon pins.
Tbh when I was placing my order on their terminals the guy had to come round to enter a promo code to activate the offer for the pins. I wish I have photographic memory then cud share the code with u guys.

You and 3 other players (can’t remember if these are just random players or can be friends as well) team up to take on a dynamax Pokémon at various areas in the wild area, one of them then has the chance to catch it once weakened (how you actually decide who gets to catch it is a question I don’t know the answer to). Personally I can’t see me using this feature too much but I’ll leave my final judgement till I’ve given it a go myself.

What’s the point in catching a dynamax pokemon over a regular version?

I think you get it as a regular pokeom. I do believe it is the only way to get some Pokémon and I guess they can do events with if for others.

Yeah the whole dynamax thing does sound rubbish, should have just left it at mega evolutions introduced in gen 6 and then regional versions from gen 7. I would have preferred if they’d never introduced Z moves as well and instead just had more mega versions and a wider variety of regional Pokémon from different regions. I think I only ever used a Z move once in the entirety of USUM.

I like the idea of the "giant" Pokémon... it's daft but looks to be fun :-).
