Let's be honest with ourselves. Beyond a few okay new regional variants, the expansions looks utterly gooseberry fool.

I really wish I were more fussed. Galarian Slowbro looks cool though.

Looks alright, more pages to fill out on my (maybe a separate?) Poke’dex which is both good and bad, at least it means after both DLC packs I’ll be getting something thats closer to a complete living national dex. Few Pokémon I’m really glad to see back though, Luxray being the main one

Only a couple of weeks to wait as well which is pretty good.

New places to explore, with what looks to be a swamp around. Not that fussed about whatever the story might be, but I'm certainly up for exploring the new locations. Should the camera remain unlocked throughout the entire island, I'll be happy. Still a bit concerned about the size of these locations, but I have a feeling they'll offer a more natural design to the world than the main game offered.

Not sold on the expansions. I guess it's cool that they've brought more Pokémon back in but there's no reason to use them now unless you're into online or Battle Tower.

Unless you can buy the expansions, start a new game and the ingame routes are repopulated with new stuff. But I'm sure that won't happen.

Why are so few people into the online? Where's the fun in grinding and one shoting AI?

I think the big thing that bothers me about the expansions is the name ‘Regieleki’. Did the designer’s two year old come up with that? Not ‘Regicity’, or even ‘Regilect’; but ‘Regieleki’, with that horrendous i-e glottal in the middle. Strewth.

I think the expansions are looking good - full on commitment to the proper 3D free-camera that was previously only in the wild area! The only real issue is the timing of the first expansion against The Last of Us 2!

The fun of pokemon is not in the battle system

I want to explore new places on an adventure, see new and exciting monster designs, and make friends with the ones I like the most

If that's what you play Pokemon for I can think of lots of other games that do those things much better with much more engaging single player battles.

I don't think there are. Pokemon has some excellent monster design with great variety in the huge number of monsters, it leans very heavily into the "pokemon are your friends" angle, the real-world analogue world design makes for a wonderful mixture of newness and familiarity as you explore the different regions, and the gym badge collecting to become champion premise makes for an adventure more pleasant and full of childlike exploration than most JRPG's heavy world-ending plots.

Of all the monster battling games I know and have tried only Digimon has rivaled Pokemon for how much I've enjoyed it, but that is definitely of the more serious JRPG approach.

I like the battling in Pokemon, once I am done with the main game stuff I would like to try out the online side.

From today (don't know how long) if you deposit a Pokemon from Sword/Shield you can get hidden ability Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble (go to the giftbox on the app after depositing)

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. The battling’s dull without the exploration and the exploration would be dull without the battling, given the comparably simple worlds.

The best bit however remains uncovering new monsters and finding out how they fight and behave IMO. By the time I get to the point where I have an online team worth the name I’ve done all that. (So maybe actually 9 of OR and 3 of Fade actually!)

What about Persona?

I gave up on P4G, I found the dungeons to be too much of a slog. There are some cool monster designs but they were very much just "things used in battles". The whole thing is very visual novel like too, it didn't have any of Pokemon's world exploration.

Yes I agree the battling is important for the pacing and structuring of the world, but it's not usually fun in itself. I do like having to battle to catch pokemon though, where being OP is not necessarily a good thing (I think it's too easy to catch pokemon at full health though!)

Did they announce anything about if you’d be taking Pokémon over from your current save? Or is Kubfoo going to be the stand in starter Pokemon for this part of the DLC? Going to be a walkover if you can just take your full team from Sword or Shield over to it.

I imagine they will lock you to the new Pokemon until you finish the side content. I like the look of it though, it’ll be cool to move straight onto it once I’m done with the main game

I hope it is the case actually, as I said, you’d be massively overpowered if not and I quite like the idea of new area, new Pokémon and team to decide on.

Luxray is a must for mine though!

Made my way to the mines on Route 3, team at the moment

Pikachu
Drizzile
Thwacky
Raboot
Galarian Ponyta
Galarian Slowpoke

Levels around 18-19, I’m really enjoying this, I love the Pokemon loop of catching, training Pokemon and creating a team.
