Pop quiz - You want a competitive viable shiny pokemon. Do you:

A) Spend 100+ hours grinding/breeding for it
B) Hack one in instantly
C) Settle for less and be at an automatic disadvantage
D) Consult your nearest video game forum

B as long as the resulting Pokemon doesn't give you an advantage over a typical competitive Pokemon (I'm sure it wouldn't).

The grind for even non-shiny competitive-viable Pokemon is incredibly boring and it's the reason I never engage with that aspect of the game.

Once you've finished all the post-game stuff you should genuinely be able to just use "holographic Pokemon" you set up in a kind of character creator in the multiplayer battles. Give them an icon of shame so people who like having "real" Pokemon can still show off, or whatever, but it should be an option.

If you’re not fussed about Shiny Pokémon then Sword and Shield are the easiest games to try to get into the competitive scene on. Max raids make it easier to get Pokémon to level 100 and once they’ve hit level 100 then you can train their IV’s at the battle tower, EV’s are easy if you have the DLC too but you’d then need to lower their accumulated EV or breed a new team. Not that I’m fussed about it but it seems a load easier previous games.

I say "that's a shame" not for any judgemental reason for or against hacking the game; more slight disappointment that rather than some kind stranger gift me their life's work, I've simply been one recipient of many bulk mailed something game breaking.

Basically bumping this to have a bit of a moan about Pokémon, Home and GTS in particular! So I’ve gone to try and fill some of the gaps in my mythical Pokémon I’m missing, just to find out you’re not actually allowed to trade mythical Pokémon through Home? So they’ve not done an event like they did for the 20th (which I stupidly didn’t take advantage of for the most part, just making sure I got a Manaphy rather than the whole lot, hindsight is a wonderful thing as always) to distribute mythical/hard to get legendary Pokémon and there’s no way to trade for them, so how on earth is a new player meant to go about completing a living dex these days? Slightly annoying to be honest! Only reason I’m still playing Go is to try and evolve Meltan (which I’ve now seen you can reset the mystery box by sending to Home rather than just to LGPE) so hopefully that won’t take loads longer (only on about 100 candy for it as it refuses to count my steps consistently :(), I have little interest in getting all the mythical Pokémon from Go to be honest and don’t feel this is the only way a new player can get them.

Although I am still loving Sword/Shield, to the point where I’ve bought the DLC for Sword just so I can enjoy the both parts of the DLC again (Crown Tundra is still loads better than Isle of Armor though) on my solo run of Sword, which I couldn’t beat just with Grookey so evolved it into Rillaboom and it was a breeze with a few stat boosts against Leon. At least playing through the DLC again will give me the other version of Kubfu’s evolution anyway.

Just about to start a run through of Pokemon Shield. I quite fancy doing it "gym leader" style, using Pokemon of the same type and with a nice theme running through the team. With that in mind, can anyone trade me a bunch of previous-gen fire starters? Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Fennekin and Litten preferably but either of the other two would be cool too!

I should be able to breed a Charmander, Cyndaquil, and Litten for you later on.

Can you put Blaziken and Fennekin into Sword/Shield? If you can I’ll be able to breed those for you as well. A mono type run is probably my favourite way to play Pokémon games of late.

Edit, I’d be able to breed you a Torchic, I have a spare Fennekin (although it’s from your rival in Kalos, so has a nickname of Kinniekins, can always change it once its fully evolved), not sure how I trade direct from Home to someone else though?

All assistance is appreciated guys!

There are Pokémon you can't catch and thinking about it, I'm actually unsure if you can have the non-native Pokémon until after the main game, or without the dlc. THat is something someone else may know. Does anyone know?

No and yes, there’s ‘only’ 400 to catch in the base game, although you can get all the ones added in the DLC but you just won’t have any Dex data for them. Blaziken you can get via the Dynamax Adventures in the second DLC but not much good if you want a Torchic to raise through the game. Fennekin can’t be moved over to Sword/Shield from home, so you wouldn’t be able to use one in the game.

That’s gutting, Fennekin is probably my favourite non-Charizard pokemon and as a Psychic-Fire type, really useful for a lot of things!

The only starters you can have in Sword and Shield are from Gens 1, 3, and 7. Charmander and Litten are currently in the process of being hatched.

Could someone breed a litten for me? It's one that my son is looking the most.

Funnily enough, I decided to breed five of each of the two I was breeding for Cora (like hell was I getting a shiny in five eggs), so I can get a Litten to you tomorrow.

I’ll breed a Torchic when I’m done with this afternoon work if you still need one Cora?

I do! I’m just at the point of starting the gym challenge, am I able to trade with folks?
