Set in the Galar Region, which is definitely not the UK.

I want proper capture and battle mechanics. I'm happy enough for them to remake the older games for the Mobile phone users, but I want the core capture system back.

Beyond that all I really want is for it to look like a proper 3D game instead of the top-down view they've always gone for.

I'm also waiting for "Town" to be revealed as part of this game. "Ah ha! It was Pokémon all along!". Though that's less certain.

Considering how good 3DS Pokémon looks upscaled by emulation...

...and considering how good Dragon Quest XI looks on Switch...

...I don't see why they shouldn't be too far off this...

I, for one, welcome our new Balladeer overlords.

I'm quite happy keeping the Let's Go method for catching wild Pokémon as I prefer it to chipping away at a wild Pokémon's health until it's weak enough to warrant repeatedly tapping A to throw balls at it until it's caught. The Pokémon appearing in the overworld is a fantastic addition and I really hope that it survives into all new games in the series.

But how is repeated having to flail about to catch any better?

Seruously though, the cat Hong mechanic stops being fun after 5 minutes and the strawberry floating annoyance of getting nothing if you don't catch it is shite. At least if I accidentally knock a strawberry floater out I get some EXP.

I play Let's Go in handheld mode so I'm thinking more of using the gyroscope to line up a throw and pressing A. It would be good if this could carry over to docked more with the Pro Controller. In any case, flailing your arms around isn't the way to go - there's a technique to develop with the motion controls.

That's a good point about experience for knocking out a Pokémon, but I still found the older games tedious when it came to wild encounters. Maybe seeing them in the overworld would actually alleviate some of that but I do still enjoy the Let's Go mechanics.

Pokemon on the overworld is excellent, pokemon go catching is rubbish. I definitely missed weakening wild pokemon and putting them to sleep etc. to catch them, and continually chucking pokeballs around just feels dumb.

To clarify: I didn’t mean to supplant an existing thread, I genuinely didn’t see Nick’s thread and am happy for this one to be modded! Still prefer my OP though.

An idea that came up in podcast I was on was keeping both systems, allowing you to chuck balls at the weaker monsters and opt (from the chucking screen) to go into a battle if you so choose. I like that idea! Honestly I think they’ll just go back to basics though.

I don't mind maintaining the art style.

I like that it has a consistency, it aids the nostalgia.

Kind of you, but I only appeared in one episode: the Let’s Go special. (And I’m hardly the most special special guest in that.) My music bookends each episode though! https://m.soundcloud.com/user-454066594-507028725

This is Pokemon Let's Go though. You don't even have an opportunity to weaken them, it's just BALL BALL BALL BERRY? BALL BALL BALL BALL BALL *they ran away!*

The Pokémon in Let's Go move around so you need to angle your throw (or the screen if you're using handheld mode) to have a chance of catching the Pokémon. It's not a huge change but I do have memories of mindlessly throwing balls at Pokémon in Red whereas I have work to angle a throw in Let's Go to get a Great or Excellent bonus.

Even with the EXCELLENT bonus they still break out too often, though ;) It's a fun mechanic, but it definitely needs more than just the catching minigame in a "full" pokemon title.

One thing I hope they build on is the co-op. It's very much just an assist mode in Let's Go, I'd love it if you could take your trainer and team and drop into your friend's game to help them out (or battle)

I haven’t played Go Eevee, but I still play Go daily and I definitely wouldn’t want a Go style catching system to replace the main dynamic. There’s genuinely no real tactics. No ‘I need to get them to X health, but Y move is too powerful, but if I hit them with Z twice and a sleep move...’ it’s just ‘lol curve that gooseberry fool’.

Again, great for a casual game on the bus in the morning, but please don’t take the actual mechanics out.

I think I would keep the Pokemon Go style throwing once you're ready to use a ball, but augment it with a species-specific mini battle at the start. A Pidgey would just go straight to throwing, but for better Pokemon maybe you'd have to weaken, inflict status, KO (like e.g. angry Snorlax in Let's Go), or let them tire themselves out in a battle first; other species might have other minigames or preconditions like certain berries, or maybe you have to nail a Fearow with a rock to bring it down, or whatever.

Basically, you know how you had to solve little mini puzzles to get certain Pokemon to come out in Pokemon Snap? It's that. That's what I want.

I think you have it backwards. In mainline pokemon you have plenty of catching strategy and I'd go as far as saying if you're continuously chucking balls you're doing it wrong. Don't think I've ever thrown a pokeball more than maybe three times in a row in mainline pokemon.

In Let's Go in contrast you can be easily throwing tens of the things just waiting for the odds.

Sold

Make the actual catching much more likely though. Nothing fun in rolling a dice over and over.
